Fishing Forum

Full Version: Why the Hate?

I have been following this forum for years now. I very seldom post and there is a good reason for it. There are a handful of regulars here that think very very highly of themselves. If someone has a good trip on the water and wants to share the experience with others, why can't he report without being tore apart and degraded. There are several of you on here that seem to be entertained by it. I call it little man syndrome. You know, the "twins" are really good guys, I wouldn't invite them in my boat if they were not. These guys have a real passion for fishing and hey are living it. There is no need to tear them down every time they show up on here. Frankly the actions of some on here disgust me. Time to slip back in the shadows now and just fish, think I finally got my fill of this place.

The internet forums are what you make of them. The twins are making it... what "they" are making it. I am sure they will learn to filter themselves a little bit and re-read some of the posts before they submit them. I have to say I have fun reading the posts. For both the info and all the responses... I also think that in time their skin will get thicker and wont be offended quite as easily. Life will go on, and then a river will run through it.

I am sorry but I see nothing wrong with their posts. What needs "filtered", they are never disrespectful, at least not until someone ridicules or blasts them. I guess I don't get it[:/]

I have to agree with ya CvFisher. These guys either totally ignore your posts or they tear you down. There seems to be a lot of negative nacy's on here that love to shout out whenever they get a chance. Sometimes they need to ask themselves "just because I can, should I?"

As for filtering what I post I have said it before many times..."we post the good, the bad, and the ugly". Our skin is tough alright but don't expect us to sit back and listen to some of your guy's crap like y'all are the "fish gods" or something.

I have considered falling back into lurking status a few times but I don't and never will let the [#000050]deleted[/#000050] get me down! No matter what I am still going out as I am sure you will too CvFisher.

like fod says these dudes do their own things, their way. its the internet dont take everything for face value.

You will find a lot of criticism when guys post pics of large, dead lake trout. The reason for this is concerned fishermen just trying to keep some bigger fish in the lakes for everyone to have an oppurtunity. Lake trout are unique in that they survive C&R very well, they live a very long time...20 to 30 years or more !! So why kill 'em ?? If you need to show your buddies a big fish, take a picture and give everyone a copy. If you like to eat fish, the small macs are great. If you like to smoke some big fillets go buy some salmon at the store. Here on Jackson Lake in WY the Game and Fish biologists have told me the fish over 20 lbs are less than 1% of the biomass of the lake. I'm sure it's like that in a lot of lakes. And also you will get tired of the BFT BS after a while. I actualy like these posts compared to I caught 3 perch on a worm and bobber !!

I don't think I can explain it any other way than that. I would stick up for myself too, but might go about it a little differently that's all.

And don't take this the wrong way tyedye, but you may have tough skin but it is not very thick. If it was thick you would not respond to some of the responses that would normally bother you. Some times ya just gotta laugh with everybody.

BTW "and dont take this the wrong way" is my own little filter. Ya see.

here is what i believe (me and me only no one else). when anyone questions you guys or methods, or challenges you (like the incident way back in the day) you guys flip and think the world is out to get you:

you jump all over people for mentioning regs and such, like you did with coyotespinner. all he did was remind you boys of the rules, dident say "OMGZ!!!! YOU BROKE THE RULES YOU SHOULD DIE OF HERPES!!!!" nope he simply stated that you should watch out for doing something or other (i think it was donating, which you werent even doing..regardless) and you sure enough just like multiple other posts you freaked.

you get upset when someone posts a great report but doesent tell you when/where. thats the way some folks like to post. there are very few "safe" spots left on the web. the few that are left i report on all the time (im usuing myslef as an example) that i post on when talking about more sensitive areas. get out and find soem of these places. sportsmans sells a map that lists damn near every spit of water in this state. also you are very close to WY, ID, and CO. branch out, which leads me into my last point:

you boys love to fish, thats awesome. you have made mistakes, which you admitted to, but the important thing is you learned from them and moved on. your always trying to learn new things and new places, awesome keep it up. i have learned alot from folks on this forum, and made some great friends! i fish with a few of them on what is now becomming a yearly trip several hours away simply by being curious and wanting to learn, the exact same thing you are doing. like i said previously its the internet, if you take things at face value all your going to do is foam at the mouth in front of a computer screen and feel dumb later. keep posting, if nothign else you will always stir the pot which is awesome!

EDIT************

i forgot to add the following. there is alot wrong with me! im sure alot of folks get pissed at things that i post so i just remember the old adage: you can please some of the people some of the time but you cant please all of the people all of the time.... that and i hate everyone equally.... that helps alot too

Ok, the thickness of skin is more of how I feel off screen. Ya I might respond on here but guess what, I don't think of it a second past the posted moment. I don't let these negative responses get me down. I still have the "fun experience" in my mind and that goes un-changed no matter what guys say on here about my trips.

Ok, get offended, what do I care.[crazy]

Cause you do let the responses get you down, sorry to say.

A couple of us are trying to help you, but your too proud, that is the problem. Have fun with it.
Good luck on the fishing and the "battle royals" in your future. [fishin]

As for the defensive stuff all I can say is, on the internet it is way too easy to take things the way you want dispite how they were intended to be said.

I never get on someone's specific post and blast them for not telling me the where's and how's. I choose NOT to comment, that is all. Something some of these guys need a lesson or two on here. If I don't have something nice to say I choose not to say it period.

The way I see it is there are two types of fishermen, "sport fishermen" and trophy fishermen". I think this all boils down to trophy fishermen not wanting to see fish get harvested because of the fact that those fish could grow into some real trophies. It all just depends on what the trophy looks like through your own eyes. I don't post much myself, because the few posts I have made have turned into a 75 reply argument. But I keep fishing and have done alot of pm's to try to help anyone with info I can help them with. keep fishing and enjoy it, that's all you can do

Who is trying to help in the last "battle" on here? Trying to tell me to edit myself is not helping, so whatever. Too proud since when? There are a few that PM me and tell me to keep on posting how I feel like posting though but they never seem to post up in the open forums. Hmmm, I bet I can guess why. Sorry but BFT isn't owned by you. I will keep posting thank you very much!

Yeah when they fire the shots first. I have never gone onto some one's trip report and blasted them the way some of you guys do to me.

As walter on The Big lewbowski says "I am calmer than you are!"

I think some people get bugged seeing resources taken away. like big fish. I hear people say how selfish bass fisherman are but I think its the opposite. they like to see big bass returned to the lake to help share the resource. why take it home for a fillet you can get cheaper at a store or just keep smaller pan sized fish? keep the big fish in there so everyone can enjoy it. so selective harvest is what people on here try and voice, sometimes not in a pleasant way. some fisherman are all about numbers and glory shots. so be it. I'm from the standpoint if you're legal I guess go for it. not my place to tell someone what to do. I might give some friendly ribbing or try and encourage someone to release the big ones but thats about it. the twins are good enough guys but sometimes do get defensive on here, and I've been that way before, and some do like provoking them wanting a reaction. things change with time for all people. we've all been there. and its the internet as well. [crazy]

Well Utgolf I mostly agree with ya. Some of these guys must be poking at us just to get a reaction. Sure you jokingly poke at us (which we always enjoy) but there is a difference between a joke and being a total jerk about it.

I do keep my fish as I love the taste of them and I see it as a waste to catch and release. I am not out there to "feed the fish". I know we don't exactly meet eye to eye on fishing practices but you have proven that we can get past all that BS and still enjoy our time together out there doing what we love to do. Fish on Utahgolf or should I say hunt on this time of year?
