[cool]Went out after work to tube south of 33 hole. First cast from the tube I got a nice lmb on the beetlespin. Continued kicking and casting towards the shoreline and caught about a half dozen small lmb on the beetlespin and the rattletrap. Saw a small pod of small lmb harrassing a school of shad. Very cool to see about 15 feet from me. Heard more noise by the shoreline and saw baitfish being pushed by some stripers. By the time I got there they had gone down but persistant casting landed me a 1.5lber. Was about to head in when along another shoreline erupted bigger boils. I kicked for all I was worth to make there and finally got to casting. After a couple minutes they came back up right behind me and I hooked a nice 2.5lb striper on a grub. They went down again and I began searching with a rattletrap. A few casts later it gets crushed by a nice fish. After a couple jumps I knew I had a nice bass on. It ended up being a 2.25-2.5lb smallmouth. What a great way to end the day. Stripers came home for tacos. Next trip headed to eastern sierras middle next week for flyfishing action.

the smallmouths seem to be getting pretty abundent in mead. also they are getting to decent size.

There are a couple 5 lbers swimming in Mead now. I've seen 4.5's, and I figure, with the gizzard shad, we may see a fish pushing close to a state record in the next couple years.

I lost a smallmouth at the boat that had to be pushing 4lbs a few months ago.

Sure hope the same thing happens with the stripers.... Alan Cole says the same will go for the big stripers in the next few years now they have a steady food supply... These little guys are getting out of hand...

I was reading some where online that, one caught in echo "37 pounder" had a 10" striper in it's belly.... From what I researched stripers don't eat there own.... Maybe he will chime in here..

You keep hitting an occasional good size SMB! Nice day Eric.
I'll see you in a couple days, you can leave the beetlespins at home.

[cool]Thanks guys. I wanted one more good day at mead before heading to the sierras with sealfish. I can only imagine what it will be like after I get back. Good luck out there.

[cool]Thanks dale. But I think I will bring a small beetlespin with me for the larger brown trout. Perhaps in firetiger.
