I have a night fishing light that looks like a car headlight and another. I've heard green lights are the best when night fishing. I was wondering if I could just paint the glass or cover green? Would that make it a green light? I don't know what classifies a green light or if that would have the same "effect" as other marketed green lights.

My first thought is, it's not going to matter what color the light is. The fish most certainly are not going to care. Also, a green light will not illuminate as much water as a clear or standard light. So, you'll be cutting the effectiveness of the light down, i'd say, about 25% or more.

But, if you must try your green light, I would not paint it at all. What I would do is find a piece of see-through plastic, very thin, in the color you want, and stuff it behind the floatation, in front of the light. That should tint the light green, and not block the light itself.
