Decided to launch from there to see how long it would take to get to Goose Island, took 30 min with my 4hp motor. Iloved the trip since I have never really seen any of that part of the reservoir.
The water temp was 64 - 67 deg and it was full a alge bloom till just before Goose Island. The Island is maybe 10' above the water right now and used to be 30' under, amazing!
Picked up a nice 10" perch with a crawdad in it's belly and caught my limit in walleye but kept only 3 for supper and the perch.
It was a great day and I am lovin my little boat. Yet I still miss the float tube and toon.

Sound great. So when the algae gets going in the upper end do you only fish by going up the res to above, it or are there spots where it is deeper on the end where you launched?

There are other places such as Norton Bay, Big Sand Bay, and Grey's Landing where you can launch a shallow running boat. However there is no actuall boat lauch at these places.

For such a long reservoir, it seems like they should put a launch somewhere in the middle. Even if it is only a gravel one. Wouldn't it be closer to the actual fishing? It isn't that they don't have the access. Maybe if you got some of the clubs in the area to to make a unified approach to F&G, it might help.
It is nice that you have the boat now for big res. like SFC. Not as easy to maneuver a the float tube, but it gets you there.

There is actually a concrete boat ramp at Gray's Landing. It is probably still under water and may not see sunshine this year, but it is there!

I never saw the cement ramp at Grey's until 2 years ago, I think. It was really quite a surprise. It was built when the reservoir must have been maintained at a lower level. You won't see it agin for a while as high as we are right now. It's higher than in a usual spring run off right now. What will that mean for SFCR fisheries, hopefully for the perch and crappie that they will get a good spawn next year.
I am sure the walleye would like more fry and the trout should enjoy more water and better temps. Not sure about the crawdads and maybe the bass will go beyond the 11 7/8" and become legal fro harvest.
Anyways back to the conversation about another ramp. Actually as the water drops there is more and more areas to launch your boats even some larger ones the deep V's would probably be the who need to be concerned, but the sandy banks usually are firm enough and some have plenty of rock mixed in to launch safely.
As for fishin There are many good spots as tyou go towards the dam, the fingers usually shallow up enough and the rock points hold some nice fish as well.
Probally the biggest concern would be road maintenace and parking. Also establishing another ramp and parking would cut into the the campers who fill up the shore line.

Yes I did. I only caught one eye at a rocky point on the east side, the wind had moved some of the algea out. Marked fish but didn't have any other takers
