After getting the gears repaired on the boat, I needed to get it wet and see if it all works. Thought I would use up some of my volunteer hours I was given for not being nice, and take an OL coot out for a few hours. emoBigSmile I was already going and taking a friend whose never caught a fish before.
We met at the ramp at 7, and I could not get the motor started, took me a few minutes, but realized I was not getting fuel, it seems there was some kind of a vapor lock in the line. Got it fixed, and off we went.
We hit the first spot, its a ditch adjacent to the main channel just a few feet wide and about 100 feet long. We put out some rods and it was just 5 minutes before one started running. Trevor took the rod and hauled in his first cat, a nice 15lb blue. He thought that was a pretty big one, until the next rod went down a couple minutes later, I knew from handing the rod off to him, this was a bigger fish. It tried its best to get hung into the other lines, but after the battle a 38lb blue surfaced, I though poor Trevor was gonna pass out. emoLaugh While this was going on EricM got a bite, but it didnt get hooked up good, so a solid miss.
We tried several other places, not getting another single bite. We used frozen skipjack, live gizzard shad and were in 25-40 FOW most places. Flow was 12K and seemed to be moving pretty good. Water temps were 67-68*
