Can anyone help with tips on catching one from shore at strawberry? I'll take any advice i can get.

i personally dont troll for them any more so the only piece of advice thats even remotely close to kok fishing from shore i could offer is to chase them in the streams. but thats off limits when they are running. hopefully someone else will chime in and has a better idea

fish where they were stocked, they should be spawning right now.

I think it's going to be pretty tough, to be honest. I am no Koke expert, but I understand that they will follow zoo plankton. Fishing a steep shoreline (deepest water you can find from shore might me in the narrows) early in the morning with bright colored spoons would probably be your best bet. As the sun hits the water the fish will go deeper, so the earlier the better, IMO.

Doubt you will have much success right now. late Spring into Summer probably a better bet.

You should try for them ice fishing, You can move around until you get on top of them. Maybe try Causey or the Pig. I would try pink or purple ice flys tipped with a wax worm and some krill oil, or carp spit. If you have a fish finder, it can really help with finding them. I really wouldn't know of a good place from shore to try from them, I am normally a good ways off shore when I get into them, except sometimes at the pig they stack up towards the inlet in the spring.

Can you still fish Kokes at the berry right now?? I know the gorge is off limits right now while they spawn. We went up labor day weekend and caught 9 trolling 65-80ft deep with RMT dodgers and double glow pink squids tipped with berkley gulp maggots.

i dont have the answer off the top of my head but..... you can fish for them but dont they have to be released with any red on them?

at the berry the onl place that is off limits is the rivers, you can keep reds out of the lake.

Really I thought strawberry had a deadline! At the gorge u can fish them still, just have to release all caught, red or not. I hear that kokes are very sensitive like rainbows so I don't want to fish them if I can't eat em. If your certain u can still keep kokes at the berry I will be up there this weekend!

+1 on that! I liked Causey for them. Here is a shot of a few pulled out from Causey. We were using a yellow/pumpkin jig 1/32oz. in super deep water tipped with a waxworm. No fish finders too! Not the biggest but still tasted great. For size I would recommend Flaming Gorge. The ice is thicker at Causey too. Still as far as shore fishing goes I wish you luck!

Some of those tributaries open back up 6 am a week from tomorrow ( C&R only) but I'm pretty sure Strawberry itself isn't closed to them.

we used to fish for them right at the ladders during the spawn with power bait, and catch our limit and keep them all. they weren't very tasty, but sure look cool all black and red hook jaw. I haven't fish it for about 8 years so check the proc. to be sure about how close to the ladders you can fish.
