Well lets see what ya all think. Went to Willard for Wiper last night. My son inlaw caught a nice Bass. Very fat.
Has the head of a Small Mouth and the body of a Large Mouth I think. So is it a cross or just a fat fat Smallie.

I'd say lmb all the way.
Looks like he's been gorging on shad!

Nicest largemouth I have seen from Willard in a long time.

Did I mention its eyes were yellow?. No chance at a cross? Its mouth is like a smallie as well. Just saying..

I'm going to agree that it is just a LMB.
The upper lip gives it away. Very fat fish, but probably just has a small head on that big body.

Doesn't look like a cross to me. Looks like a northern strain largemouth bass. The upper jaw on a largemouth will extend past it's eye. I can't tell that from your pic. Got any others?
Good fish either way man!

So maybe it is a LMB. No other pics just a quik snap and release.
Joe thought it fought real hard. Guess the shad dinner turbo charges a large mouth.

Nice LMB....whenever I hook into bass up there it is always a smallmouth lurking in the rocks. Glad to see that some LMB's are starting to show up.

Good to hear he released it, the largemouth in Willard are few and far between. Maybe a few of those will get together next spring and make a few more[
]. Good to meet you yesterday Todd.

Sorry dude hahaha, no chance at a cross. That's just a largemouth with a tiny mouth and head LOL. There are some strains that have a small head and mouth like that. It could have some spotted bass genetics but definitely not smallmouth for sure.

After bigyfan posted the mean mouth bass thread last week, it got me interested and I started blocking stuff. The hybrid is one bitchin looking fish! They tend to not have the solid lateral line, but more of a cross between a brokenish line mixed with vertical bars (like a smallie). They really are a neat looking fish!
I have caught lmb with yellow eyes. If I remember right, some smaller ones down at powell had eyes like that.
Your lard fish looks like a younger fish with the appetite of a bigger fish, so he is eating well but has a pin head! (Better than a hammer head).
I echo the other sentiments : that's a nice fish no matter what! Especially a lmb from da lard. Rare!

Shad fed largemouth bass do the same thing in Arizona. They grow fast in the body small head. Next yer he will be something. Just a first year pineview spawn.

The bass are definitely taking advantage of the fruitful spawns that we had with all the high water. Here are a few fatties that I've caught in the past month. No shad in these reservoirs, but lots of young bass and panfish.
