I'll make this a short report.
We fished from 6:30 to 1:30 today. We concentrated on the south half of the lake, mostly around the edges. We were in hopes that maybe the "Fall" fishing had started but I am sorry to report that it hasn't (at least for us).
We used tubes tipped with chub, crank baits, and even kokanee gear trolled but we only averaged about 5 fish each for the day among the four of us.
People with the best success that I seen were guys in tubes with fly rods. And I didn't get to see what they were using ... I suspect wolly buggers.
When we launched, the water was 59 degreees and when we left it was 63. That is a long ways from the 55 I was hoping for. I think I will give it another couple of weeks before I try it again.
I can however report that the crawdads are very plentiful this year.

We were up there as well yesterday (30th) and concentrated on the rocky cliffs dead East of the Strawberry marina, conditions same as coot mentioned. We're troll'ers
and did quite well in the early hours, but as the sun got higher the fishing slowed to a stop. Two of us ended up with two nice fat 2 - 3 lb rainbows apiece, lots of small toss backs, and two slot cutthroats. fished from 8:30 am to 12 noon. Beautiful fun day on the pond. sorry no pictures [unimpressed]

We were there too. Between the two of us we netted and released between 20 to 25 Cutts and Bows. All on tube jigs tipped with a worm. Fished in 30 ft of water but most fish were at 12 to 18 feet so that's the depth we kept our jigs. We missed as many as we caught.

thanks for the report coot. Sounds like it is about to pop. The Berry has been tough this year, but i think the fall fishing will be great. I'm heading up there Friday, and report on how we do.

Me an a friend went yesterday, fished around the damn. It was awesome!!! I hate power bait lol so we just used a worm an bobber. As soon as i figure out how to post pictures i'll show you. They were all bow's no cuts, the cuts is what i was after. We let them all go!!
Always catch an release.....Let someone else catch them

A buddy called me Thurs from the lake, saying that if I could get up there he'd pick me up at the marina and was confident he could get me on fish. The fish were hitting top water lures in shallow water above the vegetation all day. I wished I could have joined him, I've never experienced that. Last Fall I did well there, but never in shallow water.
I hope to get there this Fall, and I hope I can find 'em! [

I am one of those guys in a kick boat with flies. I fished near East Portal from 4pm to dark and slayed them. It was my best day on the Berry since I don't know when. I caught 21 fish on flies and missed at least 20. It was constant action on white and dark buggers. Very fun. I did not mark a lot of fish which meant that they were up high and shallow. Mostly around the weed bed edges in 15 to 25 feet of water. Sad thing is the cuts seem to have disappeared. Mostly rainbows. I only caught about 5 cutts the whole night. What is going on? Where are the big cutts that we all thought would be in the Berry by now? The rainbows were all in the 12 to 14 range with only a couple of footballs that were 15 to 17. Those fish were fat and fought hard. If the power bait fishermen don't kill them all there will be some amazing rainbows next year and the year after.
I stayed up there overnight since it was so good. I called my buddy to come up and meet me in the morning so we could slay them again. He met me at 6:30am and we started to fly fish. I caught a rainbow in the fish 40 feet of launching and thought we were in for a banner day. Wrong!! The fish had their mouths wired shut. Fished all morning and only caught 9 fish. Three were cutts. That is frustrating. My buddy wondered if I was really caught them the night before. That is way it goes at the Berry. One minute hot, the next cold.
I hope that the cooler weather gets them going full time.
Happy fishing.
