What a TERRIBLE day for a guide trip chasing trophy blue cats. Sad Prefrontal conditions, 30 knot winds and waves.
Josh is from Dunlap, and Dave was from NC. They were half of the crew that booked the trip, two compadres came down with the Flu and backed out. Turns out they didnt miss much. Both had made it clear they were after big cats, no pansey stuff for them.
We started on a spot that only seems to only produce a big fish right at daylight, so that called for a 6:30 launch time. We got a 5 lber from that spot after an hour.
We moved time and time again, even pulling out and heading for greener fields, only to be beaten by more wind, and no fish to speak of. Josh got an 18lb blue with a HUGE tail sticking out of its gullet to take big fish honors, and I nabbed 4 blues from 1/4 - 1/2 lb each trying to catch bluegill at the intake wall. we ended at sundown, and cried uncle. Sunburnt, windburnt, and just plain burned out.
Better days must be near I hope.
We used up 7-8 skipjack, several blue gill and all four baby blue cats trying to entice that bit bite. I never saw the water temps, and flow started at ZERO and got up to 46K at some point. obviously, the cats didnt care about flow.
