Snow, hail, wind are all four letter words! Two inches of snow at my house. I am NOT ready for winter to come.
I know that is off topic..... I had to vent!
So where do all of you fish in the in between season? ......In between warm wet wading and ice fishing!
I have still been fishing creeks in the last couple of weeks, but didn't remember to take my camera, so haven't reported on any.
They were still hitting dry flies then. Now I will probably have to move to floating lakes for a short time and fishing buggers and nymphs. Then maybe some of the larger rivers??

moving into some of the best time to fish se rivers iMO.
South fork doesn't have the hatches. But it will have a 1/10 of the summer traffic. Water is lower which makes wading safer, and concentrates the fish. Browns gearing up to spawn, and I can throw in the shot gun and do a cast and blast like I did last saturday........This might be my favorite time of the year to fish!

The South Fork of the Snake is a good idea. I haven't really explored the SF, because it is usually in a spring rage when I am up in that area. Then too it is usually so crowded that I move on to the tributaries. I will have to make some trips while it is in its lower flow mode.

Copper johns and flash back pheasant tails have been really good with bead heads.

Henrys will be very good and I would think Chesterfield, and Deep Creek will get hot as the temps go down.

not ready either. only reason i'd move south. i used to be a trout guy but now i am a basser. it took so long with the runoff for everything to warm up and now it going to slow down with the cold. wish it was 80 year round with little to no wind.

I would think the reservoirs will cool fairly quickly today. I am at about the same elevation range as Daniels, Deep Creek, Devils, and Chesterfield. It has continued to snow off and on all day and hasn't gotten much above 33 degrees. A little melting but not much. Brrrrrrr........ Hopefully this doesn't stay yet.
I am with you "ILoveSmallies" I wish it was still 80 and no wind. Fat chance of that in Idaho!!!! [laugh][laugh]

I agree, it was pretty abysmal today. No snow in my neck of the woods, but it's dang close. Thankfully it's supposed to rebound and the next couple of weeks are predicted to be fairly warm and dry. I hope so.
It's a short window, but this time of year is actually my favorite. The browns are aggressive in the streams, the reservoir trout are active, and the bass go on feeding binges. I would think the Deep Creek, Weston, Treasureton, and the rest should be good.

Talking about Browns , in the last week there was an 8 and 14 pound Brown caught on the Snake near Firth . Curt G.

Darn. I fished over there about a month ago and didn't hook into a thing.
Then again, that was a month ago ... and on a hot day, to boot.

So where do all of you fish in the in between season? ......In between warm wet wading and ice fishing! I fish Island Park Res. and Henry's until they freeze over and then wait until the ice is safe . The spring is my tough time There is about 2 months when you can't get on the ice and the lakes open up so you can get a boat on them . Curt G.

That's awesome. That's pretty far for me, and I doubt I'll make it up this year, but wow. Perhaps I'll have to see how The Blacksmith Fork or The Narrows are doing brown wise.

I am not sure what the snow will change for me other than my mood. I guess still want to get out and try somewhere I haven't with the season winding down. I had thoughts of going to new places this summer and never really did. I still had a great summer no matter how short it was but am in no way ready for the white stuff and anything that goes with it. This moving south for the winter idea is really sounding better every year it seems. Hopefully we get some good weathe rby May or even June this spring and still have a few weeks of decent weather here before it turns for good.

This weather seems to get the BWO's hatching well on most rivers. I'm playing Picabo next week
