October has started out in a very nasty fashion, but September was rather kind to me. While it wasn't as fast and furious as last year, it was warm and pleasant, and I've never seen the fish so healthy. I also got into some good bites on some of my favorite lures (jerkbaits, cranks and spinnerbaits). I managed to make it to most of the reservoirs in the Preston are during the month, some of them several times. Mostly I caught bass:[inline "bass 17 small.JPG"][inline "bass 16 small.JPG"][inline "bass 15 small.JPG"][inline "fatty magoo small.JPG"][inline "bass 14 small.JPG"][inline "bass 13 small.JPG"][inline "bass small 12.JPG"][inline "bass small 11.JPG"][inline "bass small 10.JPG"][inline "bass small 9.JPG"][inline "bass small 8.JPG"][inline "jerkbass small.JPG"][inline "bass small 7.JPG"][inline "bass small 6.JPG"][inline "bass small 5.JPG"][inline "bass small 4.JPG"][inline "another oneida smallie small.JPG"][inline "oneida smallie small 2.JPG"][inline "oneida smallie small.JPG"][inline "bass small 3.JPG"][inline "bass small 2.JPG"][inline "bass small.JPG"][inline "fatty magoo small 2.JPG"][inline "crank bass small.JPG"]

But I had some surprises as well.

I also made the discovery that suckers will hammer a swimbait. [inline "gross small.JPG"]
I would never have believed it if I hadn't experienced it myself, but that thing hit like a freight train.

I also ran into a dirty peeper while relieving myself behind a tree.[inline "peeper 2.JPG"][inline peeper.JPG]

Overall it was a pretty satisfying month, but I'm really hoping things get better for October so I can make it out a few more times this year.

You gotta big mouth, mister, and the proof is right thar in them hands o' yers!

Seriously, nice fish. Didn't realize largemouth were doing that well here in Idaho. I might have to visit Franklin County when things warm up next year ... it'll take me back to my fishin' roots, so to speak.

Wow! You really have those big ones trained to come when you call!

Awesome post and pictures. The owl is priceless. Funny on the sucker. I once caught one on a streamer. At the time I thought it was a fluke, but now I am not so sure. I think they may be more aggressive than I thought.

Thanks guys. The bass seem to be doing very well in the area. I'm curious to see what the big prespawn females look like next year with them going into winter so healthy this year.

The cool thing about the owl was that I've been hearing him every time I would fish that reservoir in the evening for over a year now. It was exciting to finally get a good look at him.
