So my son frequents pawn shops quite often. I had never thought they were very respectable places the typical crook prices and such. But he was at 12th st pawn one day and noticed a brand new vexilar FL8 with the genz pack and soft case.
He promptly called me and and I came down to take a look.
Long Story Short is that I walked out of there with a brand new working vex with battery indicator, genz pack and soft case all for 200 bucks. Still had the anglers den price sticker on it.
So you tell me.. Did i get a good price?

Heck yea thats a great price, but it was probably stolen out of some poor saps garage less than a week before it hit the shelves at the pawn shop. Good for you. Bad for him.

Well the reports indicate it had been there since this may. I hope to god its not stolen. That is a main reason I don't love pawn shops but this shop I guess has a two month hot list period where the details of the machine must clear that database.
So I hope its not stolen because I hate having my stuff stolen.

I understand that now days anything pawned or sold to a pawn shop has a waiting period before it can be sold. Every pawn shop must provide a list of all items, and if possible serial numbers, of item they receive each month to the law so it can be determined whether the item had been stolen and then pawned.
If an item had been swiped, the pawn shop is out the cash paid for the item and because ID must be provide at the time of the transaction the law is fully aware who the culprit is..

Pawn Shops are great places to find bargains, a lot of the times the price listed is inflated for negotiation purposes, so I always try and barter with them. That's a great deal and I would not worry about it being stolen, as others have stated, they have put contingencies in place to deal with stolen property. I would be more worried about purchasing something stolen off KSL than in a pawn shop IMO.
What gets me is the prices they pay for the stuff they buy...I have watched a few of the pawn star shows and I am shocked at the prices they offer people to buy their stuff. I am sure it's worse off camera...makes me want to open up a fishing/hunting pawn shop just to build up my personal collection.[laugh]

I couldn't agree more!!! I love pawn shops and always haggle with the folks. He'll I got a nice little caddie float tube they were trying to sell for 40 bucks for 10 bones. I also like feeding off of the misery of other folks losses, it helps sustain my life force [crazy]

The last part about starting my own PS was a joke, I don't think I could offer someone 1/10 of an items worth in good conscious [:/]...especially when they really need the money. But what I don't get is they have a choice, especially these days with KSL or CL, they could probably do a lot better listing it there and still sell it the same day if their price is right.
That's a great deal on the tube, they normally don't go that low, they probably bought it for $5.00 and still doubled their money. [
