Have fished it a little. Fished near the dam casting lures (no luck) and ice fished near the dam with the usual small jigs and caught lots of chubs and some planter trout. Many months ago, recall reading a report of a large brown trout being caught out of there.

It is full of crawdads, chubs and some planter trout. They can be anywhere, but the flow on the other side of the lake tends to draw them at some times of the year. Ice fishing can be fun as you can get really deep and catch the chubs for the next years bait.

in defense of toolekid, it looks like the questions he was asking wasn't necessarily for fishing information or how to's, but possibly alternatives....I would do the same if the bite slowed down at one of my favorite places...IMO that is what this site is for Smile

[cool][#0000ff]Sorry. Wasn't raggin' on ya. It might have made a better post/query if you explained that you have been doing well and then things shut down. We can all identify with that. Happens a lot during this transitional time. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The best I can suggest is move around the lake to find where the fish are hanging out...and trying different depths. Maybe they are moving back toward the surface with the cooling water and you can try fishing with a bubble and fly...or running spinners shallower. You might also try tossing out a plain hook with a small piece of worm and letting it slowly sink...naturally. Sometimes the fish will be cruising at mid depth and will eagerly slurp up a nice meal sinking slowly down into their zone. You can also use a partially filled bubble to get more casting distance and still get a slow sink. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]There is an old saying that if you have 3 kids and you treat them all the same you are treating at least two of them wrong...if not all three. It applies to fishing too. You can't fish the same spots the same way all year and expect to catch fish all the time. You really need to learn different lures, baits and techniques and then be a good observer. When you see different conditions your mental database should be able to give you a hint as to what you need to do differently. That is both the fun and the frustration of fishing. You gotta really stay on top of things and be prepared to make changes if necessary to catch the fish.[/#0000ff]

I haven't fished Settlement but agree with TubeDude's advice. Here is a example why. Last night I hit a local community pond while my daughter was in dance class. I get to fish for about thirty minutes a couple of times a month there if I'm lucky. I just throw spinners due to time constraints. Last night the fish seemed to be jumping closer to shore then in the past so I started throwing along the bank instead of out to the middle. Fish on. Some nights color really matters and others it is presentation. Also watch for others that are catching fish. See what they are doing different and give it a try. I told the two guys that came by what I was doing as I was catching fish and they weren't but they just laughed and continued to throw to the middle.
