over the past few years perch have recovered well with good numbers and have heard they are 11 to 13 inches. probably the best ice fishing easy to get too. you may stumble across some trout also.

Have you seen the reports the last couple of years?[

] You can't fish Cascade before I get a shot at those perch. I really believe the next state record will come out of there this year.

Bottom left. l like that one.
Needs to get on "Perch's Biggest Loser" and take a diet!
Looks as big (or bigger?) than that soda bottle! But how many onces? And is that a fisherman's ruler? [:p]

If you are skeptical, try these. The bottle was a 20 oz? I think. Either way, it was the bigger small bottle, not the smaller one.

just wondering if there is a specific lure you use to target them big guys at cascade? when does it usually ice up enough to get out and fish it?

There are lots of different things that will work, but I'm partial to perch eyes on a jig.
I'd expect enough ice on Cascade around the end of December. I didn't get into any quantity of jumbos until about Feb. I think they were catchable before that, I just couldn't find them.
Here is my theory on perching at Cascade. If you fish a hole more than 20 minutes without a jumbo, you need to move.... and move.... and move. When I move, I move a minimum of 100 yards. I had my best luck last year in about 13-15 FOW, but I know others who prefer 20-35. It seems like it all works as far as depth. I really believe in the 20 minutes without a jumbo, time to move. From what I can tell, the guys with power augers and ATV's or snowmobiles do better in deeper water (20-25 FOW). Seems the noise of the engines may turn the fish off. I haven't fully developed my theory on that one, but it seemed to hold true. Also had poor luck when there were lots of people (and noise) around. I got an ATV this summer, so after I've had more experience testing my theory I'll let you know.

Hey CJ, I fished winchester for the first time this summer. The whole time I was there I was thinking how much fun that would be in the winter. If you want some help smacking some gills I'd split the gas with you....
I finally got a flasher last winter and realized how fun panfish are in the winter. I really want to try to get some cats through the ice too...

I haven't ice fished for years, but that sounds logical to me. I have no doubt that gas and electric motors on boats turn off the good fish.

I wouldn't mind meeting some of you guys up there to take a crack at those things. I wasn't able to find them last winter... maybe because it was too easy to head over to Horsethief for the willing trout there-

I agree with perchalong...The perch population needs to be left alone this winter...I will volunteer (i dont want to) to be the soul checker of the population
