Instead of going after the geese again, I decided to hit the lake. Launched at the marina at 0800. Dock was very slick from the frost so be careful! Only one other boat out today. Surprising since it was a Friday and its usually pretty busy. Started trolling flatfish right off the marina. Only one guy fishing from shore which made trolling parallel to the dike a pain (darn bank tanglers). Anyway, on the second pass I hooked what felt like a snag. But then it started moving. After a 10 minute battle the first big laker of the spawning season was in the boat. I weighed it on my new scale and it bottomed it out at 15 lbs. I'm guessing the fish was about 16-17lbs. (note: need larger scale!). The water was choppy and trolling was tough, so I headed over to the rockpile area. Dropped down on one spot in 68'. Nothing. Moved into 53'. Bingo. Both cutts and smaller lake trout on my red/white tube jig tipped with cisco. The water was laying down nicely by about 11am, so I started to troll again in another area parallel to shore. I caught 3 small lakers in 3 passes. By that time it was about noon and time to call it a day. The fishing was good today, but I forgot the camera. That first big fish was a golden/greenish color and was beautiful. Never made it over to Cisco Beach but I know of a couple of guys who said they were going to fish there today. Perhaps someone will post up if they did.

Sweet! I wish it were not so far away from SLC. Might get the chance to hit a "former" members boat for some more bear lake action. My twin has a score to settle with the big blue lake.
Although we cannot afford any more broken rods![blush]

Live it up man!

Thanks for reporting Scott. It is always good to hear there are still plenty of macks in Bear Lake.
