Just got back from an awesome three day trip to Henrys. Glad we went this weekend as ice was safe and snow/slush were already getting bad.
There were about 6-8 of us fishing depending on the day. Landed half a dozen hybrids between 22-25 inches. Also landed several brookies between 19-23 inches.
Ice was 3 inches up to 6 inches. I don't want to hotspot locations but fishing was best when we found areas to fish by ourselves that had not yet been targeted. One area was producing great for us but every half hour we were joined by a new group who proceeded to drill 15-30 holes with power augers. Every time the bite started back up again a new group would come and freak out the fish.
My advise for those going to fish Henry's this weekend is to avoid the popular areas such as the Hatchery, Boat Docks, Staleys, etc. If the crowds are there, and the fish have been pounded for the past week, you will not catch much. Go find areas that have not seen pressure and you won't be fighting with other fishermen for the fish.
In addition, they are not plowing the road to the State Boat Ramp and we could barely get through with my lifted Tundra on Saturday and Sunday. If it snows at all this week, this road will be completely inaccessible.
Pictures are on all my buddies cameras or I would post. The 25 inch hybrid went between 5 and 6 lbs and the 23 inch brookie went probably around 4 lb, but was pale and probably a female or would have gone on my wall. In our group, 2 of us easily caught 60-70 on Friday, 8 of us caught 150 on Saturday and 5 of us caught another 80 in a half a day on Sunday. Incredibly, almost 40% of the fish caught were brookies and I couldn't believe how many were over 18 inches.
Good luck and be safe. Roads are very icy up there and snow is already well over a foot thick. Slush can be bad and it is difficult to pull a sled more than a few hundred yards. Did see a few snowmobiles crossing the lake already.
