It will have to stay below freezing during the day for mudlake to cap. With all of this wind and warm weather it could be a while. ![[Image: confused.gif]](http://www.bigfishtackle.com/images/gforum/confused.gif)

I was at Mud lake on Thanksgiving morning duck hunting. Most of the lake was frozen. We found a little bit of thin ice that we could break out to put some decoys in and there was open water out in the middle that the ducks were keeping open. We could walk across a lot of the ice but we were pretty close to shore but it wasn't "safe" ice yet. Probably only an 1" thick.

Duck hunting was slow but it was fun to go. Sloppyjoe invited me and we saw alot of birds but they were all out in the middle of the lake and our decoys couldn't compare to the big flock of ducks out in the middle surrounded by ice. Another guy that was with us got a couple birds and that was it.

I hope there are good perch there ths year, we all know we are due! Just remember Mud Lake's early ice has caused a cold bath for a few people the last few years. If Mud Lake is good it will stay that way for a while; no need to go on early ice---yes I am a hipocrit, as I have been known to venture out on early ice elsewhere.

By watching people fall through, I know where not to walk early! ![[Image: beaten.gif]](http://www.bigfishtackle.com/images/gforum/beaten.gif)
