For my wife for Christmas. I am leaning to either the Cannon powershot ELPH 100 or the ELPH 300. Any info would be great or if anyone has any recommendations that would be cool. Ron

Look at the Nikon P500 it has 12.1 MP and 36 power opical zoom and it does HD movies. Brand new on e-bay $ 340.00 and that includes shipping . Curt G.

I have a Pentax W90, and love it. It is waterproof, shockproof, dustproof, and 12 MP. I think there is a newer model than mine out now, and it retails around $300. If it is for outdoor use this camera is a great option.

What are the planned uses for it? Out door, general use, something to throw in a pocket on a day hike, or maybe something for serious DSLR type pics.

For a general good rules, higher megapixel is good but anything over 8 isn't very noticeable for normal picture taking. Optical zoom will yield better zoomed pictures than equal digital zoom. So check and see how the zoom is broken down. Also good quality glass will make a difference between good and great pics.

This will be for my wife. I would say a lot of the pictures will be inside. Most of the rest will be in the backyard. The rest will be at marathons when she runs. No fishing pictures will be on this camera. Ron

Go with something that is geared for point and shoot. No real need for a monster zoom on it. What ever you decide to go with. Do some product review searches on it and see what others have to say about them.

I went to best buy .com and looked up cannon power shot. I ended up getting the 300 something or another. It was high rated and it is point and shoot. Thanks everyone. Ron

I have been using the Powershot 590A for a couple of years now. It isn't the compact, but it has a nice veiw screen and I can add lenses to it like the polorized.
Canon are user friendly cameras for sure. Kind of hard to do wrong.
