Had some business to take care of in Heber this morning with TyeDye. Afterwards we drove up to Strawberry to give it once last chance before ice up. With the roads leading in being icy as could be for our little car we passed it up. The road up to Currant Creek was the same so on a not so whim desion we went to Starvation Reservoir. Considering we had never been there before we fished Rabbit Gulch. What a mistake. Wasted a half hour without seeing any signs of life. Went to the dam and within 10 minutes TyeDye pulled in a starvation steelhead (Rainbow Trout) with a gold Kastmaster. Got some hits and some fights, then TyeDye pulled in another bow. With the snow coming down the bites shut off for quite some time. Moved around a bit and finally got a bow to shore. Not happy with the lack of action we decided to move down to the Strawberry River to get some spawning browns. With a Gold Blue Fox size 2, my second cast hooked into something big. After fighting the aggresive brown in the current for some tense minutes I got the brute on shore. Measured him at 20.5 inches. While performing the shore side measurement TyeDye was fighting a brute of his own. Once landed it was measured at 18.5 inches. Then TyeDye got another brown at 15 inches. Stayed there for awhile getting bites and fights till dark. The drive home was a nightmare....first white knuckler of the season.

Nice browns. I'm pretty sure that's not the Duchesne river though.

Very nice brown. Looks like you were fishing the Strawberry River below the dam, not the Duchesne River. Good times. [fishon][cool]

Oh well that is cool. 1st fishy's on the berry river then!

I want to shoot out a special thanks to In2Fishing for answering my questions today via cell phone on how to get around that place as the only map around was torn apart by vandals.

Nice report - nice brown. I do envy you guys your adventurous opportunities to get out and go. Even with the slick conditions (had ice-scouting plans I blew off after almost sliding into my garage!)

Starvation is one I'd like to hit - one of these daze! Maybe on ice - if they have an 'event' would be nice to hit it with folks that know the lake. Like Rockport'll be.

It's coming soon to the north - I think I may find some ice this weekend!!!

Well we scouted out that ice spot at the berry today. Probably going to wait for the actual lake to freeze though. As for starvy I wish I would have gone with tube dude for my 1st time as he knows that place so well. Such a BIG place and so little time to explore and all.

Rockport is where I call home for ice fishing!

Let me know where the ice 1st forms up there![fishin]

From your post on the "starvation smackdown" thread it looks like you did just fine with that 24in brown. While fishing starvation I watched as a lunker brown followed my lure into shore. The thing was huge.

I almost pulled in for a couple hours. The snow told me to keep on driving.

nice job man on the big bruiser brown out of the river. and for the rainbows out of starvation, for what ive seen they are just a gorgeous looking fish like a steelhead as you said in your post, so keep up the good reports.
