Well my three boys who are my fishing partners all had other plans today, Christmas parties and such, so I went solo today. Made it up to the top of the mountain around 9am, roads a little snowpacked, but not bad. I passed huntington which had about 8 vehicles in the parking and a few down the lake by the road. When I hit Cleveland, only a mile from Huntington, not a soul there like usual. Same as last year when I went there, I figure it's due to the fact theres usually two feet of snow on the way down to the lake, but today only a mere 10 inches or so, nice big parking area plowed out too. Went out into 12ft of water and punched a hole, 5" of ice, the fishing was not hot but I managed 15 rainbows between 9:30am and 2:30pm on a chartruse rat finkie & a custom tiger colored jig both tipped with chub meat. Smaller ones were around 13 & 14 inches, bigger ones were 16 &17 and real fat same as last year. I was hoping for one of those big cuts in there, had one up to the hole that was maybe 19" but lost him. Was a fun first outing of the year though. Some of you Huntington guys should have ventured around the bend and gave it a shot, course maybe the fishing was hot at Huntington!
