Just got back from an OK day of fishing the plan was to land a big bow, then go after kokes, and then head to Henry's for a large sunset hybrid; well at least we fished in three differnet locations[:/] Pali

es 99 and myself managed 8 bows at Island Park largest was 15'', best action was in 5-10 feet of water off the bottom. Paddlebugs and mealies did well. Ice is a good six inches/no slush. Cosidering my past luck at Island Park it was a half decent day. We went to the dam area and could not find any kokes, however, did manage a couple more small bows.
Finally fished Henry's for 1.5 hours and managed five cutts and one brookie. Great day to be outside[

The best place to catch the kokanee is in front of the spillway in about 40' of water .

Thanks Curt--We were in that spot for about an hour--I plan on giving it another shot this season. I have learned a great deal about this place over the years from your insightfull posts. Although I did not slay them today I did mark a few fish on the Vex on a consistent 15 minute basis. It is one of the pretiest places to fish in all of Idaho!

I am going to keep pounding Henry's until it closes . Hoping to get a better Brookie and Cutthrought , and then I will start on the other species we need for the contest . I have to agree with you . It is one of Gods greatest creations I just love it up there . Thanks for the ice report there have been a bunch of us wondering when it would be safe at IP . If I have a good day at Henry's I could keep 2 there and run over to IP and catch 4 more . Curt G.

Thanks Ovid Creek. That is the best situation that I have heard of for IP ice fishing for years. Hopefully it will stay that way. As you know, for some reason, that place typically has water on top of the ice more than about anywhere that I can think of.....

Thanks MMDon I forgot about the separate limit . Fishingrocket I have been watching the water level very close . They have been holding it at 86% . It looks like they are letting it out as fast as it is coming in . If they keep doing this the slush should not be a problem . It is only a problem when the lake is filling and water is coming uo on top of the ice . I hope it stays that way . The lord willing and the creek don't rise . Curt G

They usually start filling it about Jan 1 and then there is two layers of ice to fish through. I've been up there when the layers were 2' apart and people with hand augers were trying to fish between the layers. I was using a 16" extension after shoveling down to the ice just to get through to open water.

I am hoping because the lake is so full already that won't happen this year . If the snow get more than 16" on the lake I am done anyway . It's to much work shoveling it off to get to the ice for me . Curt G.

Fished up there today and the wind has blown most the snow off the ice. Eight inches of solid clear ice by the dam. Only managed five rainbows though. Pretty slow day and it was very cold. I heard the wind was terrible at henrys too.
