Guessing that fishing up there is going to be a little rough this year with how much water is in there . Could be wrong but I would think it would spread the fish out more.

It could do the other way also though some times when high water occours the fish school up.. it also means there could be better fishing area closer to shore.. if you know the area and you know where close by structure is that would be the spot to fish.. just because its frozen doesnt meen the fish are going to change there habbits of seeking cover.

I fished it Sunday. Ice was 7" then and fishing was slow. The Fish are schooled up and it was like fishing Ririe for Kokes. Nothing for a while and then a school would come through and it would be a mad dash to the poles to set the hook. Only problem is, we could not seem to set the hooks. There were poles about ready to go down the hole and you could set the hook and nothing was there. The 3 we caught were all planters and between 14-17". This was between 4 people and 4 hours on the ice.

My guess is you were fishing shallow water..... I've had that happen a lot in water under 10 feet deep and almost every time in water under 7 feet. In shallow water it seems you have to stay right there with the rod so when you get a bite you don't spook the fish. A mad dash to the rod will send them scampering away (if fish can scamper, [Wink]). If you were fishing in deeper water, then I can't explain that.

Went in from Blackfoot this morning. We started at Poisen Creek and then went to the dam. Not one bite! First skunk of the year. Used our new Nils augers. SWEET.
