[#000080]Or at least for me and Bait_Caster today.

BC and I decided to make a run to Bear Lake today and fish for some whitefish. I was pretty excited about smoking some again this year. Going up through Logan Canyon was an easy drive but COLD. Going through the Peter Sinks my truck's thermometer registered 23 degrees BELOW zero! When we got to the east side of Bear Lake, the temp was about 5 above … much warmer.

The ramp at first point was easy to launch from. And the parks guys have left a dock out to use … very helpful and appreciated.

We fished First Point … no whites. We fished Second Point … no whites. We fished the Boy Scout Camp area … no whites. Now, I know that BLFG said that we might need to fish in “slightly different spots” than when the water is low but hey, that’s a pretty big lake and I didn’t know where else to try. So, if anyone reading this would like to divulge where the whites are this year, maybe others could take advantage of that. My only advice is to NOT fish 1st point, 2nd point, or the Boy Scout area.

Since we were smelling the big skunk, we decided to go deep and try for some macks. Our luck was holding strong … no macks all day either. But I did finally score a snagged sucker. We quickly cut him up into pieces to tip our jigs with. That did the trick. We finally boated a few decent fish. Here are a couple of them:

My 24 inch cut:

[#000080]It was a tagged so I thought that it was not a native but then, since it had all of its fins intact, maybe it WAS a native. Hell, I don’t know. All I do know is that it sure put a Smile on BC’s face.[/#000080]

We took the tag and released her.[/#000080]

Sorry to hear about your luck on whitefish. However, in my last post I said, "In fact I never even had a bite on the 2nd Point area". I wish you would have seen that. I've been fishing off Cisco Beach and the Utah State Park marina. Both have been producing some nice fish. Even the shore anglers are catching fish off the marina.

We filmed a show with KSL's Adam Eakle yesterday and caught quite a few whitefish. Look for the show to air on Dec 17th. I'll be out on Thrus, Fri and Sat this week. We'll keep you posted on how we do.

Nice fish, Coot, congrats! I've never fished Bear Lake. Looks like I should make the time to do so sometime soon! Glad you shooed away the skunk. [Smile]

Nice report and pics Ralph, too bad the whitefish did not want to play but good to see you both caught some nice cutts. How was the wind yesterday?
