Want to take the kids out, but don't want to have them disappointed if we can't fish. We usually take them to Daniels mid-December each year, so this would be a week early.
Anyone have any info they would be willing to PM me about ice conditions at Daniels?
Thanks.

I don't know the ice conditions or I would tell you. I just wanted to remind everyone that there is no such thing as "safe ice" only ice that is less risky.

+1 on there is no safe ice. For example last year at oneida the ice was a solid 8+ inches thick all over the place.. then i decided to go for a walk on the ice and all of a sudden the ice i was wlking on was doing the wave.. and i noticed water coming through a hole in the area.. that section about 10yards long was only maby and inch thick.. puckering type experiance. Also same day at same place was walking past the dock and broke through and there was about an inch void of air to another crusty layer of ice.. . You never know what your going to encounter on the ice.. just be smart about it and if you dont think it is safe dont risk it. Only go if you feel comfortable.

I lost a good friend a few years ago on PaliSades. He was one of the smartest people on safe ice I knew. He taught me most of what I know about picking ice with a bar to test it.

He is missed.

If I was taking kids onto the ice they would have auto-inflating PFD's on or they wouldn't be on the ice. Nothing is worth risking your own child's life. [Image: confused.gif]

Amen. The ice is scary enough, without the kids. My son seen me drop threw. He was sleding on thin ice. The ice held his weight. I could here it breaking under my weight.. I will always remember, as does he. Be safe with your children and old friends. Ice fishing is weird. I just like it.

This is not meant to sound funny.

My mom always told me.
