Old Idaho & I went and tried out a new spot, Lava Lake. It is mostly shallow but we found some 4' water that had a few bows willing to play and they liked the fact we had some worms to entice them.

Old Id kept me humble last year when we fish and he is doing it again, but like my wife say the "guide" should not catch more than the guest and I didn't.

We then drove to Carey Lake and found some perch mostly 6"ers but a couple a little bigger. It was active when the school came through and then you wait. Old ID did it again with a couple more pech than me and one blue gill.

We had a great day for our first time out and I must confess . When I was picking up a few things at Sportsmans I walked by the ice fishing rack and there on the bottom shelf, just hanging there were 4, only 4 of the dreaded, it's just soooo hard to say, please don't be dissapointed in me. I know I am weak and can be be a very impulsive buyer when I am at Sportsmans, but I had a gift card and a rewards card and a coupon for $10 off if I spent $50 so I just did it, I bought a JawJacker. Yup I did it. The best part is "it", not me, but it caught the biggest fish and one other fish and "it", not me, also missed 2 fish and even snaped off a jig, or maybe it was just not tied on right.

Well that's it. It was a beautifull day out fishin with a great friend, or at least he was a great friend untill today, any ways Thanks Lord and you all have a wonderfull day and try to remember Jesus is the Reason for the Season.

Lava Lake. Is that the place east of Carey, right off the highway? On the north side, right near the middle of the lava?

If so, I've always wondered what was in there as far as fish.

Yes and all we found was trout haven't checked to see if they are planters

Thanks for the report. Sounds fun. On the jawjacker you either had a bad knot or the rod was set with too much tension. I snapped a couple jigs off at Henrys then adjusted the rod tension.

The ranch owners north of the lake told me that F&G does indeed stock it.

Glad you had a good time ~
