Looking to take the kids out this weekend, anyone have a report on the ice for Chesterfield or 24 mile?

If the ice is good, does anyone know what they're swallowing?

Also anyone out on McTucker puddles yet?

Welcome to BFT.
Those are some nice fish you have there.

I haven't heard anything on McTuckers, but for Chesterfield and others there have been some posts in the last week or two. Just read back through some of the former posts.

Those were last year at Chesterfield, best fish for eating, salmon like, without the extra fishiness, my wife loves them, that's why I get to go out so often during the winter, she likes me to grill them up.

I don't usally take kids out till the ice gets about 20" thick.
We've been so cold for so long, I was just wondering how close we're getting to "thicker" ice.

Most reports I've seen puts the ice at about 8" or so on the higher resvoirs, I was hoping there would be someone out there recently to verify.

This is def. the best site I've seen for reports, and local talk! Glad you're here, and glad I found it!!

Welcome PVV, we fished Chesty today. My third time this month. The ice is a way safe 14" The fishing this year is down right slow. I'm worried that it has been fished out. Well not fished out, but the last three years it has been easy to catch 1 1/2 to 3 pounders. And lots of action if you get there early. (Thin ice early) This year its a lot like today. We were on the ice by 0730 and fished until 1:30 and landed 4. And Jarred got skunked. He usually kicks our buts so I had to add that. LOL 15 poles in the water and four fish. But they are big older fish, not that good eating. Most over 2 and my bigest is 4 lbs. I know I have lost bigger ones.

We had 4 wheelers out on the ice last friday and we caught 25 fish, biggest was a little over 4lbs. Very clear ice! Good luck

If you are thinking of action for the kids I would not recommend Chesterfield. As was mentioned, it is slower than I have seen. Yesterday five of us worked hard ( 8 hrs. worth) to get 8 keepers. By hard I mean keep the rod in hand or at least close enough you don't have to leave your chair to set the hook. Yesterday was the second trip for us and probably the last for this season. Ya never know though, it could turn on real good another day.

Luckily I know a sweet spot. In Seven years, we've only been skunked once.

We'll give it a go and report back, it's a bit early out there for us, so we'll see if the fishies are in a solid winter pattern yet.

I'll try and take some pictures too, if all else fails, we can do some sledding.

Fish On! [Wink]
