WENT TO AMERICAN FALLS THIS YEAR STURGEON FISHING A COUPLE OF TIMES. WE CAUGHT A FEW BUT THERE WAS THIS ONE GUY IN A DRIFT BOAT. HE HAD ONE ON EVERY 10 MINUTES OR SO. IT WAS AMAZING. THERES SOME IN THERE THAT ARE 7 FEET OR SO BUT NEVER SEEN THEM ONLY HEARD OF THEM. SO IF YOU WANT TO CATCH A STURGEON THEN HIT AF. BELOW THE DAM.

Im almost willing to bet the guy you scene was my land lord guy is a fishing master.. he holds more records than any one I know.. and sturgeon is one of his speacialties.. i know where to go just didnt really pursue it this year like i had hoped too.

I moved up here from Utah 4 yrs ago and I have never landed a trout over 3 lbs. So that has been my goal every year. And this year I broke it early this summer at Bkft Res. with a 3.25 and 3.5 lb.er And last week a 4 lb rainbow at Chesterfield. And I caught my largest brookie ever at Henry's 2+ lbs. Next year: 5 lb Snake River Brown. And I want a Sturgen also.

Fast Randy, you are in the right place to break those records...easy!
<My goals much like Jeremy were low because of not getting out as much on certain waters as I wanted, but made do with other waters. I had a blast in 2011.

I too have a goal of 1000 trout. I am at 836 right now, it will be close.
i wanted to catch a cutthroat this year since it was my first year living in the west. (wasnt that hard of a goal to accomplish.
wanted to catch a striper on a fly. CHECK
have a 100 fish day. CHECK
catch a monster brookie from henrys. NOT YET
understands henrys fork and consistantly catch trout there. working on it, but i think its a lifetime goal haha

If you want to hit that 1000 trout mark, you need to go to Horsethief. I've been twice since it iced up. I'm pretty sure I caught 120 or better in those 2 trips.

i wont be able to as i am leaving for PA tomorrow......but i should make the goal back home. I cna fish every day the rest of the year so I am hoping to make it.

Since the year 2000, I had always wanted to catch as many fish during the year as the number of that year. I had never quite made it, until last year. After that I decided to pretty well take a year off from any goals. Fishing was definitely tougher this year, so I'm glad I made it last year. I fell way short this year.
I did however manage to beat some of my previous bests for size.
My new best perch at 14":[inline "giant perch 2 small.JPG"]
My new best smallmouth at 17.5":[inline "big smallie small.JPG"]
This rainbow looks really close to the size of another one I caught a couple of years ago, but due to the difficulty of trying to get an accurate measure in my little float tube, I released them both so I wouldn't over handle them. I guessed it around 2', but it may be bigger or smaller by a little. [inline "goodbye big fellow small.JPG"]
This gal was an inch short of tying my largemouth record, but it was best of the year at 19".[inline "big bass 2 small.JPG"]
I guess I've had the goal of catching a tiger musky on a fly for a couple years now, and I didn't get it this year either. I think I only fished for them for about an hour before the zoo at Newton drove me away. I guess peace and solitude are more important to me.
This next year besides the fly muskie, I think I'm going to try beating my smallmouth record as my goal. I may get to go to the boundary waters of Minnesota, so I'm hoping for a new species or two as well.

Man that perch is a beast. Them are all some nice fish good job.

Thanks! I'm glad I managed to get some quality fish, even if the numbers weren't what they were last year. I'm hoping this dry winter continues on and we can get some decent spring fishing for once.

Amen to that. Nice fish across the board.
I'd have to go back to the post - but there was a first of the year "what are your goals". Got my biggest Utah bass (16 inch LM thru the ice). First SM Utah Bass. First REAL channnel cats, more crappie, loads of perch. Some "nice" carp. It's been a fun year, look forward to MORE!
I know- I haven't met a Walleye. Didn't find any Wipers this year. No Kokanee (yet).
1) I did find the kittys! Got into some good channel cats - goal was 5lb, I got an 8lb - so new goal's become 10lbs. So - record cat for me. More mudcats than I care to count!
[inline 01.FatFighter_5_27.JPG]
2) Got on ice last season for a first. First time I've had to count a perch pile to be concerned with a 50 fish limit. Couple times over. And those where the half that stayed above deck - twice as many dinks went back down. So yeah - 100 fish days, fishing trout on top of the perch too.
Bluegills, bass - check. Even some Crappie for good measure. [inline StackedOnTheIce.jpg]
3) Got into more species - first Smallmouth, caught Carp (on purpose), green sunfish, more crappie. Caught varieties of fish out of the bear river. Days with 6+ variants. That's some fun!
[inline BRb7.InDaBag.jpg]
4) Musky. Got my "trophy musky" shot. (thanks Ben). Have caught - hooked up and control released several musky (plus a few breakoffs), but haven't boated, measured, took the 'glam shot' until this year. But I "controlled" 5 nice musky over two weeks - that was cool! And it was a jig - not my real perch being eaten! 39"
[inline N2.TrophyShot.jpg]
5) Filling a limit. Two weeks - I strung up a LOAD of Perch from Newton - and they were 8+ inchers mostly. Not records like SOME people (14"!!!) but kept me busy.
[inline N9.StringerFiller.jpg]
I've also expanded my fishing gear, fishing crafting - beyond spinners, spinner harnesses, to include flies, jigs, and bottle cap lures! Always experimenting.
Cheers Anglers! Keep it tight!
Those are some great fish piles. I never did end up keeping any this year. I guess that's a goal for next year, make more fish tacos. Yum. Quite possibly the best food ever created.
That's a great musky and super fat cat too. I guess that could be another goal of mine, try fishing Utah more and save a little gas.

Nice fish.. i must say im a little jealous of that cat as i did a whole lot of catfishing this year and my biggest was only 3lbs. And that muskie is nice also! I didnt try to hard for one this year though so i cant complain. Im hoping to get into a bunch of perch as i have been wanting perch & bluegills latley..

I didnt get either of my goals. i almost completed the steelhead on a fly rod but i couldnt land the only one i hooked. i fished hard all year and there are a few things that stand out from 2011. from my son netting my biggest salmon ever (26lbs.) to my daughter being with me when i caught a 3 lb crappie. i fly fished a new river and slayed the brookies and bows and through the whole season a landed 16 different species of fish could be 17 if i can get a koke on the ice before the 1st. i never keep track of how many days i get out through the years or count how many fish i catch in a year. (as i dont want the wife to have any more leverage than she does already.) but 2011 was indeed good to me. cant wait to see how 2012 is going go.

Some awesome fish caught this year by all of you. If you had a good time even just catching one, then to me it was a successful time. I had an amazing year and 2012 is going to be even better!
Chrome Junky, I would love to see some more reports from up in that area. It sounds like you have had some good times exploring the area.

I completed a couple of goals this year. I wanted to float from Swan Falls to Marsing on a catfish safari. That was a super fantastic trip that all I can say was a piece of heaven. My son and I broke our all time number of catfish caught on a weekend trip. It was 38 catfish in 14 hours. We got 50 cats in 12 hours fishing this year. That was amazing. The last one was I wanted to catch a Sturgeon in my inflatable pontoon. I got one and not like a junky hooked on crack I gots to get me another one.
I don't know what my goals are going to be yet for 2012. I am sure I will be doing a catfish float some where and catch a bigger sturgeon in my pontoon.
Here is my fish of the year. Ron

A sturgeon from a toon has got to be intense! That has to be one of my favorite goals that I've seen so far and awesome job getting it done. The two goals that I set for this year were to get a steelhead over 36 inches and a brownie over 30, I had a great start to the year and got both done fairly early. thinking I was well on my way to the greatest year ever I went on a miserable drought and couldn't land hardly anything over 24 inches (trout). I did manage to to spend more time than normal running after bass which was fun but wasn't able to get either of my bass goals done, a largemouth over 20 or a smallmouth over 22 [mad], suppose that will have to wait till next year! Last goal of the year is my recurring goal of getting my dad out fishing and getting him into a trophy fish, it wasn't looking good for him until his last trip down and we managed some really great fish, he got a 7lb brown and I found a 29 inch cutt. best trip of my year.
[signature]
This was more my brothers goal than mine but I did get to make it on the majority of the trips. The goal was catch sturgeon 12 months of the year and he got it. At least one sturgeon every month and several months were over 10. Total for the year was somewhere between probably 60 and 70

Ron you had some great videos to go with the float-sturgeon too! Plus some nice big cat-action!
Way impressive. Well done to all of ya. 2012 can only get better! This high water year should spell good news for spring spaws. Even if we don't have a huge snowpack, seems like some many res's left off much higher than past years, so likely will still have good levels come spring.
Gstott - fishing in Utah? You've been selling me on getting up North for some quality angling action!
