I received a PM recently asking if/why I eliminated a thread. I have also heard from another moderator on this site that several threads have "disappeared". (He was not accusing me!) First, I would not even know how to do that. My controls give me several options, including moving a thread or locking one. I have banned two people since I have been moderating, both were first-time posters who were obviously spamming. I had rec'd several complaints in each case. I recently locked a post, the only time I have ever done that. The reason was simple: the discussion had become mean-spirited and hurtful. Some of those rude comments were aimed at a regular contributor on this site. I had no views one way or the other regarding that particular discussion. That thread did get removed, and I have no idea why/how. I have always admired this site because of the helpful, kind-natured people who "reside" here. Rarely do you find the nastiness you often find on other forums. Members of this site are quick to help others, even out-of-staters. A recent request brought over 20 helpful responses. I see as my primary role to protect the nature of this forum. I am convinced that if that kind of behavior became the norm, it would eventually erode the active forum that we now have. On the other hand, I don't ever want to be seen as "heavy-handed". If you disagree with this approach, please let me know. I have come to respect so many of you on this site. Mike

It isn't an easy job, and takes a good amount of your fishing time. A round of applause and my hat is off to the moderators that keep the peace!

Well, I'm the bad boy. After I received some PM's about the American Falls Tournament thread, I checked it out and it was a war between Idaho and Utah going on. Instead of locking it and letting anyone else read it and get more feelings hurt, I decided to try and clean it up but when I got done not much was left.
I apologize but when things get that far out of hand it is hard to figure out what to do to appease the people that report it and try to soothe over the hurt feelings. It is

that we as Mods have to be put in this position at times but we have to make a quick decision right or wrong to stop things deteriorating any further.

Sometimes it's a thankless job Bob so let me say thanks!

First let me say thanks for the job you guys do and another thanks for letting me be part of the forum. That being said i realize i don't own this place, but i feel a person should have free speech as long as it doesn't get out of hand, if joe blow doesn't appreciate people invading his state he should be able to express those feelings, If paid advertiser on here puts out a bad product and someone has a problem with it do you suppress that thread ? Just as someone doing something unethical and there called out on it do you let it run or do you lock or delete ?
Ive seen examples of all of it and have had my opion or outlook changed by seeing the thread develop and grow as long as there isnt a bashing or name calling let it run its course hurt feelings can have a positive effect as well as negative. Its just part of life and i dont think you will lose members most everyone on here is very civil and pretty good at self policing . Im not telling you how to run the forum im just offering my opinion I think it would be better to throw a post in from a mod saying tone it down a little or edit and send a pm with your concerns. I hate to see locked or deleted threads . Its takes time to go threw it all but as mods you are obligated to keep the information within the forum and keep it flowing smoothly as possible that's what you agreed to when you took the job , without members and posts there just wouldn't be much here. Again I have no problem with anyone on here I appreciate all the information and reports for the members and the thousands of lurkers

Thanks goes to those moderators for their work for us who spend a lot of time selling ourselves to others; spending some of that time in angered concern over each other as if we had nothing better to do. Go fishing!!!!

Yeah - what SHE said. (though I think it sounds better coming from HER than ME!!)
The state line gets crossed. The C&R vs C&C (consume) debates, the JawJacker vs Hand-Jigging, Artificials vs Bait, Barless vs Treble Hook - where does it end? (it doesn't)
I'll add my Cheers For the Mods (CFTM). There was a Nevada post that started out WAY overboard, and went downhill form there. All it took was one weekend with a mod out - (god forbid - FISHING!) and all heck broke loose!
I've been recently reminded (by a MOD) - even the LINKS we post - are worthy of scrutiny. Maybe we don't want a YouTube with a bunch of cussing bastards. (and WHY does EVERYONE on You tube HAVE to cuss on their vids?!)
hey lets remember - there's kids out there. Set a good example, they learn from us (ps: kids like cats

And

ly - not necessarily the things we'd LIKE them to learn!
As an "out of stater" - I'd like to express my appreciation not just to the mods, but also to the members. I may even belly up and pay my overpriced out-of-state license fee for the privelage of sharing your lakes/rivers. Some members have been very encouraging of the angling opportunities up north, and I've enjoyed the fishing ventures I've had in Idaho. (now if only GAS would drop in price!!!!)
Mods, you all do great. This is an awesome and helpful site. I've learned a lot from so many of you.
It's Christmastime. Good will to all.
