COLUMBUS, OH-Ohio Sea Grant is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Chris Winslow as its new Assistant Director. Winslow will coordinate the program's Great Lakes research with agencies and universities, as well as assist in research, curriculum development, and student recruitment at Ohio State University's Stone Laboratory.

"We are very fortunate to have Dr. Winslow joining the program," Ohio Sea Grant Director Dr. Jeff Reutter says. "Chris brings a great knowledge of Lake Erie issues; and his teaching experience at Stone Lab, his leadership of the Friends of Stone Laboratory, his experience mentoring students, and his energy and enthusiasm will be of great benefit to the entire program."

Winslow earned his doctorate at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), with his research focusing on the interaction between the native smallmouth bass and invasive round goby. He studied the behavioral differences between largemouth and smallmouth bass to earn his master's degree from BGSU, and he received his bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Ohio University.

As an Instructor at BGSU from 2002 - 2009 and an Assistant Professor at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania for the last two years, Winslow taught general biology courses to more than 700 students. For the past five years, Winslow has been a fixture at Stone Laboratory, teaching Aquatic Ecology classes to high school and college students and mentoring college students and their Lake Erie research projects in the lab's Research Experience for Undergraduates Scholarship Program. As president of the Friends of Stone Lab (FOSL), the lab's support organization, from 2006 to 2008, he helped provide more than $140,000 in scholarships to nearly 100 Stone Lab students, as well as instituted new FOSL committees to help streamline event planning and fundraising efforts.
