Decided I couldn't take the inversion so I went fishing. Tyedyedtwin sighting at the cabins. They were getting their gear ready. How do you wear a hat over that hair...

Went to the same place I fished on Friday. Redrilled the hot hole (you can do that with a Nils [Smile]) Fishing was fairly decent for chubs with the occasional cutt to make it interesting. Caught a 6 inch rainbow with no fins and a snub nose...fresh from the hatchery. It was uglier than the chubs.
About 12:30 the chubs showed up in force and it was non stop action until I quit fishing at 2:30. Lots of burbot bait! Ratio was about 10 chubs to 1 trout. There must be an incredible biomass of chubs in there! I pulled 124 chubs out of one hole! One fat cutt had two 5" chub tails in it's throat. I dont know where it was going to put crawler it hit.
Kept all the chubs and released all trout to be caught next year.

Did see one quad on the ice, but it didn't go far. Didn't look like it went past any preassure ridges. More preassure ridges than I remember seeing before.

Fresh air and sunshine was great! Honked at the twins on the way out.

That is exactly why the ice tournament should have a catagory for the most chubs (by weight) Can you imagine the good it would do for all of us to target these trash fish they are easy to catch especially if you target them, it may only scratch the surface but at least is scratching! These fish are nothing but disgusting and everything should be done to get this special lake back! Thanks dude for doing your part!

Well honk honk back to ya![Wink]

As for hats well we don't wear them and when we do it flattens down and pops right back up afterwards.[laugh]

A tournement on chubs had better be free! Who the hell likes to target those? Besides IceAndFly. Bass tourny's attract bass anglers cuz they like to catch bass.

I guess if it is a good cause then more power to ya though.

Yea, I wouldn't pay to fish for chubs in a tournament either. I won't even pay for them as bait when they are this easy to catch. I froze all I needed, and gave the rest to friends.

Many tournaments offer a prize for the most/largest/top weight for trash fish. It's just one more way to make a tournament more fun.

It seems some of my favorite fishing waters have changed recently so I've had to adjust. Now it's chubs at Scofield so I can fish burbot on Fontenelle. Kind of a lemons to lemonade thing!

lol thats funny all the fishermen in utah could not catch enough chub out of scofield in one year to make a dent in the amout of chub in the lake.. fishermen have very little efect on fish like chub, carp, perch, burbot, there numbers are only controled by predeter species and water conditions... ya want more chub, and carp drop the water levels again that seems to work best.. [crazy]

Great to hear you are back out on the ice. I was wondering when your first post would pop up. Glad to see you still have them dialed in at your 'secret' location.

If you are in 15' of water, you are quite a ways off of shore aren't you or is the lake level still up? Usually that area is only 6-10 feet deep.

Good work!

Lake level is way up this year! Took a while to find the weed beds. Secret spot...there are no secrets on Scofield!

Ron,

your probably right about fishermen not making a dent, it sure wouldn't hurt! All I am saying the tourney up there the past few years has been a joke for trout! Why not add another feature to the tourney to at least do our part to help, you put 150 guys on the ice and they know they can win some bucks for the most chubs iced, guys are going to do it.

I am not saying eliminate the trout part, just and additon to do.

When I see one guy put 124 chubs on the ice in one day, it sure the hell wouldn't hurt 150 guys to ice 15,000 chubs.

Im just sayin thats all, sometimes its good for us to give back a bit instead of just there always reaping the benifits.

My son Inlaw said his friends buddy caught this brut last weekend at Scofield. Has anyone else seen fish like this when fishing there?

What a bute! That thing is HUGE!

Amazing tiger! That's the kind of fish that can control chubs. Remember to release the top predators so they can help the fishery and get REALLY big.

A prize for the most chub lb's would be a great way for people to target them. Plus, if 150 people are willing to harvest them for just one day, they could really put a hurt on them.

oh i'm not saying that any and all chub caught should be let go.. it's just fishermen have very little inpact on them..

the tiger in the pic above now that would have a incact on them chub...

the funny thing is with out the chub, ya would not have fish like that in the lake.. so let all get together and kill all the chub so we cant have fish like that any more... sounds good to me..

chub are not a problem to fish that can eat them.. splake, tigers, brown trout, walleye, pike, musky, and laketrout.. all do a good job eating them..

cutthrout and rainbows dont [crazy].. go figure...
