Decided to take my two kids out to Sulphur Creek yesterday, got a late start. Headed out a little after noon. Took the hand auger expecting about 6" of ice, BIG mistake. Ice was well over a foot thick definitely should've went with the gas auger. Beautiful day and the fishing was awesome. Stayed only a couple of hours but had fish on the poles the majority of the time. Several times we had 2 or 3 fish on at a time, which makes it a circus for me getting the kids poles fixed up and trying to keep tabs on mine. This rodeo caused a few misses but landed a lot of them too. The derby this year should be awesome the majority of fish we caught were 15"-17" all of them bows. Great way to get out on the ice for the first time this season, hopefully the rest of the year stays this way. Only took a few pics, a couple of the fish were the real pretty dark fish. Good luck to all this year and stay safe![cool]

Where's the walleye? I'd rather see some walleye pictures from sulphur but good on ya for for gettin the kids out and catching some nice bows.[Wink]

Still haven't seen any pictures of eye's from sulphur, they claim that their in there but I'm not a believer yet. Have you ever got any eye's out of there before?[crazy]

I would love to post some pictures of eyes out there, the problem is that I have never personally seen one caught there. I know people that say they have caught them but I've never laid my eyes on one.....no pun intended[sly]. The part of the lake I fished I wouldn't expect to catch any eyes though either. Since it was the first time out this year I was iffy about taking a 4wheeler or sled over to the parts of the lake you might catch one. Now that I've been there I have no issues with taking a sled or wheeler on that ice, plenty safe. If I get over to my favorite fishing spots I'll see if I can't pull one or two of them out and I'll definitely make sure to take some pictures if I do. It's like getting big foot on camera[Wink] Now that the ice is getting safe I'll probably mostly be back to my old ways of targeting perch and crappie though, which Sulphur doesn't have. I wouldn't be surprised if some wiseguy bucket biologist doesn't have them in Sulphur before too long. That's how the eyes got there in the first place. There's always someone out there that thinks they know the waters better than the real biologists do.

Yeah - it's a drag when it's so busy you can't even stop and pee! Nice trip, thanks for the report. Sounds like fun for the kids (did someone say Walleye?!)

Oh yeah - those dark ones, did they have all their fins? Probably natives. [:p] (ok, this time I'm kidding) [Wink]
Ha! The kids had a blast, now if I can just get them to take their own fish off the hooks..ha ha. All the fish had all their fins and looked healthy, nice and fat. The dark ones looked like the fish I catch at Naughton. I am determined to land an eye out of that lake, I know they are there but they are sneeky buggers, they can run but they can't hide forever.

[Wink]Perch and crappie?

By far my favorite to fish for too, where do you fish for them around evanston, is there really any place close for you.

I usually fish in Utah, which is why I do a lot of posts in the Utah boards. If I'm going after perch and crappie I usually hit "The View" or perch I'll go to Rockport. I've caught perch in Echo too, and if I get talked into it I'll go to East Canyon on occasion. None of those lakes are too far from Evanston. They are all closer to me than any lakes in Wyoming other than Sulphur. One of these days we should get together and do some damage to the perch population.

[Wink]Heck ya, be great to join up with someone that has the same panfish passion as myself. PM me in a week and let me know when your ready, those lakes ought to be ready by then.
