So how long does your battery last, or how many holes will it do in the day? How does cold affect it?

I just had the batteries replaced under the warranty. They didn't do very well on the old ones. With the new ones, I can get about 40-60 holes in 8-12 inches of ice. The cold doesn't seem to hurt them too bad, but I did notice that over at Henry's I could only get about 45 holes on 3 batteries, where at Cascade and Horsethief I was able to get about 20 holes or more on 1 battery. I assume the reduced number of holes is due to the difference in tempurature since the ice conditions weren't all that different. Either way, it seems to be plenty adequate most of the time. If I move a lot or have a large group, I run out, otherwise, 3 batteries will last all day.

Looks like it works pretty darn good how hard is it to change out the adapter back to the handle if you run out of battery ?

Takes longer go did the handle out of the bottom of my sled than it does to change it. That's as long as the adaptor is isn't frozen in........

I made my own adapter for a eight inch strikmaster to fit my 18.8 snapon. It worked ok but it's nothing like 43 cc's on top of a 10 inch. You ever had your auger come out of the chuck and fall through the hole?

The chuck does come loose and I check it frequently, but I haven't had it come off yet. I built a stop on the adaptor to keep it from dropping down the hole if it does come off.

great idea. i built my own adapter yesterday after seeing your video. going to montpelier res. today and try it out. ive got a 14.5 bosh drill . I hope is enough power.

How big is your auger? If it is a 6" I'm thinking it will work okay. Anything bigger will probably be too much for the drill, but it might work.

Its a 8 in. but ill go slow. got 4 batt. so maybe I can get a couple of holes. ill take my hand adapter. ill post my results tonight when i get back. thanks for the info.

Here are the pictures of the adaptor. The long bars attached to the nut in the middle separated by 2 washers is to keep the auger from going down in the drill comes detached for some reason. I made it so that it spins freely, so it doesn't get hung up in my clothes. Previously is was solid at I had to be really careful to keep it from tearing up my clothes.

I have tryed this with my Sears 19.2 V drill. First on my 8" Eskimo. And now with my new Nils 8". I bought a new battary ($30) and the new adapter for Nils ($30) and I can only get one or two holes per battery. My Sears die hard battaries suck. And their best 1/2" drill dosen't seem to have much torque. For sale: 8" Eskimo with Ice Master adapter for drill.

You need a high voltage lithium ion battery to drill holes in the cold. They aren't effected by the cold like the old cadmium batteries. My Makita 16 volt lithium ions keep going for quite a long time!

[pirate] 14.5 volts aint enough took my hand attatchment and worked my guts out. Oh well probably needed the exercise anyway. I think 18 v would do the job though. fished montpelier res. today. 3 bows. 25 perch. all small 4 to 5 in. no coke.

what did i do wrong. i built myself one and burned up a brand new makita 18v LI drill.

8 in auger through 12 in of ice 2.5 holes

Wow, That is not good! Burned up your makita 18v LI drill. I think I paid around three bills for my Makita set up. I am just going to stick with my gas auger now. I was thinking of converting my hand auger to the drill set up. Sorry, to hear that happened.
