just the ice fishing derby in first part of february. Wish they would start the evanston lions club derby again. We had a great time up there for many years.

We have the derby started back up at Sulphur Creek outside of Evanston. This will be our second year back with it. For now we do one day on Saturday, for two reasons. This derby is put on by youth ball players which do most of the work for themselves and second that Sunday is usually Super Bowl. We are working on getting built back up to a 2 day event. Hopefully in the next year or two we will be back up to the 2 day event. Our derby is not near as crowded as it used to be and this allows us to let people bring their own sleds or 4 wheelers out on the lake and move whenever they feel like. I also personally run people wherever they want to be all day long with sleds and 4 wheelers. There are a lot of people on this site that attended last year that I'm sure would share their experience with it. We also run food and drink out onto the ice. The prize money given out last year was in cash and the prize amounts were pretty high compared with other derbies I have heard of. This year we will also have other prizes to be raffled off for the derby including a power auger. Yes the evanston derby was a blast. It seemed like a very sucessful and organized derby and the money went to a great cause. I heard tons of rumors why they quit. I would like to know the correct reason. maybe someday they will start it up again! maybe we will try the derby on the 4th of feb.
