[cool][#0000ff]I have had a couple of reports that the wind is taking a toll on the main cap of Utah Lake ice. Might not affect the harbors...but it might. Be careful if you plan to go in the next day or so.[/#0000ff]

Watched the wind blow the north end open wide today. I bet A.F will be scary and pumphouse may be protected!

The pumphouse is fine... but the side channel were the gates are has NO ice. They opened the gates and are letting alot of water out. I havn't seen that during this time of year.

[cool][#0000ff]Yes, I heard from another report that there was a gate open. That is highly unusual for this time of year. That usually does not happen until March or April.[/#0000ff]

With the crazy weather we have had recently I would think most of the ice around the state is unsafe. With the drowning on Flaming Gorge this last week all those heading out please be careful.

i reported late in the ice season last year, there will be some work going on at the pump house this winter. my neighbor is part of a project where they are putting in new gates/pumphouse or something. the gate flow might be due to that.
According to him, they have been watching the lake levels all summer preparing for this work. the lake was 1ft from the all time high that has been recorded. when was the big flood? in the 80's? it almost hit that level again.
the lake, as we all know, as stayed a little fuller this year. according to his numbers, it is 2-3 foot deeper right now than the norm. they have been keeping it flowing trying to get it down. not sure what all the owrk will be or how it will impact that area. Access might get some restrictions. you know how construction sites are. i havent asked him about the project in a few weeks. i will try and get any info i can and post it.

[cool][#0000ff]Thanks. Keep us updated if you get any more info. That is a popular (crowded) spot when the whities start getting frisky in the spring.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The "big flood" was in 1983. The lake spread up into a lot of farm fields and the carp followed. Great was the slaughter of carpkind. I once strung 5 carp on one arrow by getting down parallel with the shallow water and shooting into a cluster.[/#0000ff]
