So daughter and I decided to give Causey another chance today, after our skunking 6 days ago. Headed up there bright and early and left just as it was getting dark. Spending the whole day there, we each caught two...she had two bows, I had a bow and a tiger. Biggest bow ran 15", everything else was in the 12-13" range. We were using typical ice fishing jigs, tipped with either wax worms or meal worms. (She caught one of hers on a ratfinkee, I had one on a nuclear ant, similar little jigs seemed to be what worked.)

Lots of people we saw and talked to got completely skunked though, so we were lucky.

No one we saw or spoke with got kokes, including us.

Ice was up to 10.5" thick, nice solid safe deck. It was soooo cold when we arrived this morning, I swear ice crystals were forming inside my nose as I breathed.

If you're looking for fast and furious ice fishing, Causey's probably not the place to go right now, but the ice is safe and there are a few smaller sized fish, if you stay long enough and move around enough to get a few.

I've done pretty well my last two times up there. Last Monday I caught about 10 and missed many others, yesterday I fished the boy scout arm and caught 10 in two hours (fell threw on the bank and slipped all the way up to my chest) so only fished till I was completely froze solid. Definitely need a plank if you want to fish that arm.

So caught 10 what? Fish - frozen fingers?
Kidding - trout? Kokes? I'd love to get on some kokanee, so I hope Liz can find them, then show me how!!!!

Need to find out how things are up at the Pig.
All trout, no kokes this year...so far

Scary, glad you were ok after falling through. I've never fished the boy scout arm, I understand it's more shallow, and I've been told the kokes are on the deeper side, by the dam. Dunno though, I'm certainly no expert! Thanks for the input!

Good to hear you did better this week, Sad no kokes though[frown]. I was considering going up there again today but changed my mind after reading your report. It would have been an early day anyway with it being Christmas eve. 15" is a good fish coming from Causey now days. Did you fish the same area as last week?

I am determined to get a flippin' kokanee out of there, dadgummit! [mad] We got skunked again there today. What is the difference, 24 hours later, same times, same place, same lures, same depth...no fish this time??

Yep we went to that same spot across from the dam yesterday, but today we went a little farther up--got some inside info, a guy told us that in that narrow spot he'd had pretty good luck in previous years getting kokes. So we moved all around, got a few light nibbles but they were bitin' and spittin' out pretty fast so no cigar.

From what we're hearing, I guess it takes a few weeks after it's completely capped for the fish to settle into their routines or whatever, and the fishing to get predictable, and it isn't there yet. We talked to one guy today who'd gotten a couple of tigers, no one else we spoke with had actually brought any in.

Dang I want some kokanee! I've never, ever caught one--hooked one at Strawberry but it broke off before I got it in, just saw the red color. I sure hope to figure out Causey.

Anyway good luck, wiperhunter, I hope to be giving good Causey reports soon. I sure can't after today though.[pirate]

Deepest spot I fished was 26-28'. Thought maybe I could possibly catch some kokes back there since I kill them in the spring but no luck
