The holidays left me with a couple days off to fish. While I wait for safe ice on some of my other favorite spots I decided to hit Utah Lake one more time (2 times actually). The first trip on Friday the 23 was better than the next. Fishing was from fast to ok, when the schools would swim past it would be fast for a bit then slow down again. Drilled a lot of holes to find them. Nothing impressive about another pile of white bass but here are a couple pics. Now I will be looking at my other favorite lakes. BTW you may want to go to TDs tackle store and pick up some of his fancy trinkets. Great ice fishing stuff[laugh]

So I haven't really fished Utah Lake since the late 60 or early 70s (yep I'm that old) and have never ice fished it, I need to take a 5 and 7 year old grandson tomorrow. How about Lincoln Beach (near their home)? Is the ice safe? How do you ice fish it? And what do you use to ice fish for white bass?

I havent been out to lincoln beach yet this year so cant say how the ice is, I am guessing it is good since it is 5-7 inches on most of the north end. White bass move around a lot so its more a matter of finding them. A jig, a jigging spoon, heddon sonics, Kastmasters etc will all get white bass when you locate them. Usually they prefer something moving. You cqan also catch white bass, bluegil and crappie using a flasher and a baited ice fly or small jig. Good luck and let us know how you do. BTW I am that old too[frown]

Be careful near Lincoln Beach. I was out there a couple days ago, had a solid 5 inches of ice, and took off walking with my son north from the ramp. All of a sudden (about 50 to 70 yards north) I realized that the ice had changed significantly, and I was standing on about 1.5 inches of ice, maybe two. the ice was bowing beneath me. We backed out very slowly and discovered that there was a transition from about 5 inches to perhaps 2 inches of ice. I about had a heart attack right there.
The wind was blistering cold. We fished for 20 minutes without a bite, so we left. Would have tried harder if the wind wasn't so bad at that time.
