Three of us fished Strawberry on Friday. It was a warm, beautiful, sunny day! But the fishes must have taken the day off too as the catching was rather slow! We fished Hawes Pt. and the Strawberry marina. At Hawes, the ice was extremely vocal and it was interesting to watch and listen to the ice move there. The road to Hawes is in good condition, but only advisable in a 4wd vehicle. The road to the Strawberry Marina is still doable w/o 4wd, well, at least until the next storm hits. Saw one ATV running around on the ice at the marina. Ice depth was around 8 inches, but very fractured. We ended the day with 7-8 cutts to 20 inches and 3 nice rainbows.

Sounds like you did better than I did. I was at Mud Creek from about 8 - 12. All I had to show for it was one decent sized rainbow. I saw a few chubs on the camera, but I didn't even see any cutts.
You aren't kidding about the ice! I have never heard a lake pop and crack so much. One younger child that was nearby could be heard complaint to his Dad, "I'm scared." I couldn't blame the little guy- there were a few times those cracks sounded like gunshots and were near pants-messing levels. [blush]
I have never caught many fish on the ice at strawberry. But the size and potential for big fish keeps me going back.
One day I will figure you out, Strawberry.

My son and I went up with my brother, and a buddy and his son on Friday as well. We fished Renegade. We did really well on Wednesday and expected a repeat. Today was much slower. The 5 of us managed around 60 fish, but we were there all day (from 730 to 4).
The fish did not seem to be cruising very much for us where we were. It was windy, and the storm was blowing in.... Not sure if that had anything to do with it.
There was only one other group on the ice when we left, out in the middle of Indian Creek. I am guessing it was slow for most people. Oh well. Thems the breaks.

60 fish for 5 guys is SLOW!
I must really be the worst fisherman on the planet. You wouldn't believe how many times I've fished all day up there for 1 slot cutt, or a skunk.
I'm so ashamed![crazy]

those little rainbows are almost the plague in some spots. I caught 48 myself the other day. 160 between the 4 of us too... only 1 Cutt at 23 inch.. It was a busy day but I felt unstisfied..... however I will keep trying!

Ditto for us. I fished Strawberry twice this past couple of days and we caught plenty of rainbows. Occasionally, it was so fast we had a hard time keeping up with the schools coming through. We caught about 10 bows per 1 cutthroat. Only one over the slot, but I let her go to fight another day. All fish were caught in 10-15 feet of water, except one that my daughter caught a couple of feet down while looking down the hole.
