Catalina Trip on the Victory
Things are starting to get really tough out there boys and girls. I took the 3/4 day Victory skippered by Mike Blue yesterday for a trip to Catalina's front side for Calicos. Carl was decking as usual with Cliff in the galley. The load was pretty light with not more than 20 anglers.
The bait was a good mix of 4 inch anchovies and sardines. The water was fairly calm but it took a while to get to the island as the fog was pretty thick an it didn't burn off until we arrived at our first fishing spot.
We fished at Ship and Bird Rock and hit numberous other spots but unfortunately all we could bring up are quite a few short Calicos and a few sheephead and various bottom fish. There were a few lings mixed in too.
Even though Mike tried really hard the water was cold and just about as dirty as I've seen it all year. Less than a foot visibility in some spots.
The fishing was fun but the catching not so great. That's fishing. As an update, I saw the Victory at Rocky Point today...... wonder why? ha ha ha
