Hi I'm am from utah and was wondering if there are any locations somewhat near the border to fish for grayling (preferably ice fishing). I will have my father with me he is old and has bad knees so i need to be able to drive a truck to the location. He can walk out on the ice no problem, but I don't have a snowmobile or a four wheeler. does anyone know of anywhere I can drive into so he can clear the grayling off his bucket list. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the heads up everywhere here is a hike or a sled ride so i guess we will just have to wait til spring

Wont be accessable til spring- but one of the Independence Lakes near the City of Rocks should have some grayling. Good luck.

How many Independance lakes are there? What is it, about a 2 mile hike into those lakes?

Easiest access summer is going to be horseshoe lake . Can drive right to the edge. It's a bit further. Sits just outside of yellowstone parks sw corner. Good luck on your fish hunt.

If I remember right, there were three independence lakes right next to each other, all fishy, and about a mile and a half up the trail (when I was a kid you could still 4 wheel into them- but that was many moons ago). Last time I was there, a few years back- the middle lake was lousy with grayling- but check the stocking report at Idaho fish and game's website

Low snow year so far, you can still drive over elba pass. Foot trafic only and has been that way for many years. They do a good job maintaing the trail in there tho. The third lake disapers in middle to late summer

I got thinking about it- the Vietnam War was still going on when we took our Toyota Land Cruiser in there- Now it's a very enjoyable hike - still starts at the old scout camp/hitchin' post, I assume?
