I'm probably going to enter the derby as well! We went to sulphur creek just a few weeks ago. Fun lake to go to, fishing is great there. The species of fish you will find there are: rainbow trout, cutthroat, and walleyes. The wallys were illegally planted there
. I don't really know the location on the lake that people have the most success at, as that was the first time I had been there. But we are probably going to go there in the coming weeks to stake out our fishing spot for the derby! Perchski might be able to give you more advice

I grew up in evanston and fished sulphur creek as a kid. In sulphur there are trout, smallies and walleyes that were illegally introduced. Also carp and suckers! Sulphur used to be an awesome fishery but has slowed down the past 10 yrs. Its a fun lake I am excited to fish the derby. Easy access points on the lake

Send a PM to Perchski. Pretty much his home ice I think. He's always posting reports on that water.

The trout I caught were mostly around the 13 inch range, but did mange to catch one that was 15 inches. So hopefully, I'll find one bigger than that for the derby

Hey Mooncricket, awesome you will be joining us for the derby you and your son will have a good time. All the previous posts are dead on for the type of fish in the lake. Although I haven't hooked a sucker in a couple of years now but I'm sure they're still there. You will mostly catch rainbows, but you can also catch browns or cutty's. There are those that can get the bass and the Walleye out there but I wouldn't worry about trying to target them too much, them things are a more a ghost than a real chance to catch. Just to give you some advice I generally fish in roughly 30' of water and typically do the best on the bottom of the column. With that said last time I was out most of the bigger fish were less than 10' down. There are several good spots on the lake. I will be more than happy to help you and the son get onto one of them, but am a little hesitant to shout them out on the world wide web. I will personally be taking people onto the ice for the derby in the morning and bringing them off in the afternoon. Flag me down when you get here and I'll get you there. Typically the size of the fish are around 15" or smaller, however you should be able to get at least a few a day better than the 16" mark. My wife won money in the Sulphur Derby a few years back with a bow that was just shy of 21". My advice is if you get one over the 16" mark at least bring it in for a shot at winning some money. The fish this year have been pretty good size and nice and fat. Most bows I've been landing have been between 15-17". Anyway, if you want feel free to PM me with any specific questions and I'll help the best I can without giving out "all" my secrets[
] Good luck to you. We also have some awesome prizes to be raffling off at the end of the day including gas augers, fish finders, heaters, jaw jackers, and pole set ups. Plus I'll run the softball girls out on the ice to sell food and drinks throughout the day. This derby is for them to raise money for their season. I've been forgetting to mention that they are the Wyoming defending 14U State Champs in our first year last year. I've attached the flyer and entry information again in case anyone else wants to join, we still have space for more contestants.[

You can also go onto the Wyoming fishing board, there aren't as many posts on that one so you can find posts on Sulphur easier. My latest post was from Sunday the 8th when I was out there. It's titled Phat Boys, there is a few pics of some of the fish me and my daughter caught. The fish in the pictures I would consider about average size this year. The profile pic is actually at Sulphur also, it's not much background but gives you a little idea of what it looks like.
