Made it up to Mackay today for my first time icefishing the lake and had the pleasure of catching my first Kokanees. With the help of Windriver from the forum and a couple of guys fishing there today I was rewarded with 6 kokes. I have them cleaned and filleted. Ready for a meal tomorrow. Thanks for your help. I really had a great time. Great people and a beautiful day.

Great picture. Is that all of Mackay there on the ice with you????

Those are the permanent houses. Most of the locals don't come out on the weekends to use their houses so it looks crowded like that all the time, but most of the time it isn't.

I figured it was the permanent "village". I think it is interesting that they are all so close together. Is that more of a social thing, or are the fish really that concentrated in that area??

YES . A little of both cpierce . Before I had my Quick Flip , and the wind is blowing up there . I would drill my holes close to one of the permanent house and use it for a wind break . That made fishing in the wind a lot more comfortable . Curt G.

It's mostly a social thing. A friends dad used to put out 4 or 5 houses so all his friends had a place to fish together all winter!
