Arrived at Rockport at 745 this morning, and I knew there would be quite a few people there but.....wow! Tent city, easily 500 folks on the ice. We setup shop, drilled a couple holes, and dropped some tubes tipped with wax worms. After 3 hours and going through everything in both of our tackle boxes we only managed to lose one fish at the hole. All others we talked to around us weren't doing well either.

Around noon my buddy and I figured with the lack of snow it was worth a try to see if the road to Smith and Moorehouse was open. Packed snow and semi-slick but entirely passable. We got up to the lake and saw a few out there with snow machines and quite a few more cross country skiing. Only saw 3 tents on the ice and few braving not having one. It was VERY VERY windy on the lake. Well, poked a couple holes and we setup again. Buddy gets a 10" Rainbow within I'd say 40 seconds of dropping his line (white tube jig topped with wax worm). 2 hours later and after going through the tackle boxes again we were schooled. Talked to the other two on the lake that hadn't left by then and they had not caught anything either but planned to stay until dusk. Ice at Smith and Moorehouse is very thick right now, ice at our hole was 13" (we fished about 50 yards off the boat ramp).

Hope others did better than we did today!!!

Yeah I know the feeling. Was at East Canyon today caught One in five hours. Even people we talked to said it was slow must have been one of those days.

Wow, what a bummer. I try to fish RP every winter, but holy cow 500 people on that little lake[:/] Guess I won't be headed there this year. I try to avoid the Cities on the lake. Hope you get a better catch rate next time.

I might be over-estimating at 500 people[Tongue], but with no exaggeration there were several hundred.
