I decided I wanted a break from catching trout and thought I'd attempt to put a dent in the Roberts pond perch population. Heres what about 200 perch from Roberts pond look like.

I started fishing around 12:40 and StikRig came and joined me around 2:30. We ended up with over 200 (almost all out of the same two holes). I don't think we even put a dent in the population but it was fun to try. StikRig also pulled out a couple little planter rainbows.

It was fun a fun day even if the biggest was 5"-6". More than anything, I liked watching them on the camera. There are so many perch in that pond it is unbelievable. No wonder they are all so small.

That is amazing! There must be millions in there. If they could get a predator or two in there to trim those perch down a bit, that could be a good fishery.

Wow remember to take some advil before you fillet those buggers; I think your back is going to be in the same position for a while.

Great Report!

It's too bad I couldn't make it! Nice to see you had a productive day though...maybe this weekend we can plan another trip

In the summer when we took out our aluminum boat it got to the point where we could throw a bare hook over the side and let it down 1-2 feet and catch them. Glad to see someone is trying to clean it out a little. I really like Roberts, clear water, tons of perch, and my first ever catfish (2 in one day, but that was a few years ago).

I am taking a scout group ice fishing in Feb. Maybe I should go there instead of Ririe. At least they could stay busy.

I'd take them to Roberts. Plenty of action and it's been kind of slow at Ririe. It's the time of year that Mackay slows down as well!

I'm still not too familiar with the area all that well, where is Roberts pond, and how big is it?

Roberts is north of Idaho falls. You can see the pond from the interstate. You just take the Roberts exit and hang a right on the main street. You'll see a sign that calls it "Jim Moore Pond" or something like that now. The internet says it is 35 surface acres. Its not a huge pond but it is pretty decent sized. It has perch, rainbow trout, and channel cats.

That pond really needs an active predator species that can eat perch more than a few inches long before the predator gets really large. I bet if they stocked some flatheads or a few tiger muskie they would take care of the tiny perch problem.

If you see it from the interstate , you want to hang a right not a left . Curt G.

Sorry I was thinking backwards. Thanks for catching that.
