BIGbites and I hit the Gorge for some burbot Sat. and Sun. night (Jan. 14 & 15). We got set up by 4:30 pm on Sat. off of a point at Firehole in 29' of water. This was the first time we have fished this area. Based on the reports lately on the burbot action, we weren't expecting much. This area was crawling with large crawdads. Whenever we would rest our jig next to the bottom, the dads would attack our sucker meat offering. We ended up iceing one very small 17" pup and five 22" - 24" burbot. Sunday was even slower. We fished out deeper in 40'+ in the late afternoon hoping to get into some more pup lakers. I fought two right up to the hole only to have them come unbuttoned. Sunday night was a bust for burbot. The cold front and storm was brewing and we experienced some pretty intense wind gusts. We decided to call it a night at 7:30 pm and head to dinner at Applebee's in Rock Springs. Still a great trip and fun times even though we didn't remove a lot of burbs.

Cute. (The kid, not the fish.)

Thanks for the report. I want to get up there soon and try for burbot through the ice, but haven't ever done it before.

Have a nice rest of the week!
