On another forum there has been 37 pages of debate about that exact model of fish finder. There's folks who've sent them back, some who've loved them, some who've decided to wait until all the bugs have been worked out. One thing I'll say is that Marcum has finally decided to join the 21st century. Spinning discs for fish finders is 1950s technology. Almost every brand of fish finder can display a round flasher mode, a vertical flasher mode, and a graph mode. Most of the difference is in everybody's preference for what they're used to, and their unfamiliarity with a different way of displaying the information. Some like the round display of a flasher. Some are satisfied with just a vertical display. Some like a graph. The LX-7 finally allows a Marcum to show all three styles.

Been running a LX7 for a month now. Love it. The LX5 is a backup now. I've had no issues at all with the unit. Screen is easy to read, love the zoom bar on the side and the actual depth readout in the center of the dial. I typically set the zoom for the bottom 10 feet and watch the main screen for higher fish. Unit is really great when bottom fishing for perch and the rainbows come in 10ft down.

The LX7 does everything the LX5 did but a lot better and has a the easiest menu system I have ever worked with. Doesn't come with an operating manual because you simply don't need one to run the unit right out of the box. It is bit pricey but you'll still be using it 10 years from now. Marcum customer service is great should you ever need it.
