My wife and I will be at the gorge for the burbot bash next weekend and with this warm weather I'm debating on taking my boat instead of my ice hut. My questions are how to make sure that all the water is out of my outboards before calling it a night for three days. What shoud I do if the boat ramp is all iced up and I dont have chains on/for my motorhome. We are looking forward to the tourney, we are just having problems with the logistics of it all I guess you could say. Thanks in advance for your input and or advice.

When you first pull out of the water lower your motor as far down as you can and let the water come out, and when you stop for the night put the motor down again for the night...
I take some kitty letter and some deicer as well to use on the ramp..

I also when its really cold will turn the motor over for a second to make sure there is a little heat in the motor wile it is in the furthest down position once its on the trailer.(I mean turn the engine on)

I have run my outboard out of water for just a few seconds and ruined a water pump (back when I was ignorant about outboards). The impellers are hard rubber that fits inside a thin stainless housing driven by the drive shaft directly from the engine. I think just putting the engine in gear with the KEY IN OFF POSITION and hand rotating the engine by the flywheel or prop directly is sufficient to rotate the water pump to clear out water. Just my un-humble opinion/observation.
