Fished at big elk this afternoon. Fishing was slow and the ice is in poor shape. 8 inches of ice under 5 inches of water under 4 inches of snow. Needs to get real cold to fix it. I wanted to fish blowout but the road wasnt plowed. I did catch a very nice 20 inch cutt though. He saved me from the skunk.

I pulled my sled down the unplowed road to blowout at 4:30 this morning and went out on the slush-ice-water. The ice is 7-8 inches thick but the slush is very bad, I did not enjoy myself. I did manage one 16in brown at first light and after 10:00 I bailed. If you go its a good pull down there and I would wear rubber boots or waders. I didn't feel that safe and that was my last pali
es trip this year unless we hit some below zero weather. On my way out of Alpine I stopped and looked at the elk at the feed ground. There was a few nice bulls as always. Good luck if you go.
