Good tip. I've been doing that for the last several years. I stll haven't found the perfect way though. Seems the ink fades even using a sharpie. Maybe its my tape - what are you using?

I just started doing it after a tip from a friend. I liked it, and he said I could us it. I just used some little stickers from the office section of Walmart. After I made the video I found that some of the stickers had gotten wet and were coming apart. I can clearly see this is not a perfect system. I am going to try some athletic tape next. If you find something that works better, let me know and I'll update the video.

I used to use colored tape wrapped around the rod near the handle, but then I'd get Confused as to which color was what, so I decided the number system would be better. Now just got to figure out how to keep the numbers dry.

I've thought about scratching the number into the metal, but that seems to permanent.

Seems you've tried or considered trying the same things I have with the same results. There must be a better way. I've had it on my list of things that need invented for awhile now. Just can't come up with the perfect system. What's everyone else do?

I don't know on the spinning reels, but on my fly reels I use a sticker on the inside with clear tape over it. You might try a layer of clear tape over your sticker on the reel post. It may wear off, but should last longer.

I had also thought of that. I think I'll try some clear tape over the ones that are still intact and some athletic tape on the others and see how it goes.

Switched them to athletic tape last night. I think this is going to work really well.
