I'm working on a TV show for Animal Planet about fishing. We're taking a host and putting him in some unusual fishing situations to try some new and weird ways of fishing.

What are we looking for? Mainly, we're looking for anglers who've invented creative ways to catch fish or who've created unique solutions to problems they encounter while fishing.

If you know of someone or you yourself ARE someone who has created an innovative solution to a problem you've encountered while fishing, let me know. Something intrepid. Something weird but crafty. Something homemade and cheap. But most of all, something that has proven to work, even though everyone told you it wouldn't.

Hi Ms. Sawyer. Welcome to BFT. Being an engineer I was faced with a very unusual task of trying to scale down fishing gear that would fit in your pocket. After a lot of time, trial & error I ended up creating the world's smallest fishing rods & reels that finally fit in your pocket. They are called Pen Fishing Rods. What is a Pen Fishing Rod you ask? It's a cleverly fabricated miniature fishing rod disguised as a Pen. It's only 7¾" fully closed or 4' 9" which is 57" in length when fully opened & we also have a larger version that opens up to 63" or 5' 3" which also comes with your choice of 7 different reels ranging from the world's smallest fly fishing reel to an equally fabulously designed variety of spinning reels both front & rear drag. Get Tubedude in on this. It would be great to have the professional fly fisherman in a tube that looks like the Starship Enterprise and work every gadget while trying to out fish Tubedude on Utah lake. Just my opinion but I would watch it[].

For ice fishing the first year I tried it I didn't have many rods so I tied some line around a gatorade bottle and then wound it on. From there I would just let out some line and then set the bottle in the hole. when it bobs I would go set the hook. Worked great until the cat thought the ice fly was a toy and got caught. The gatorade bottle then chasing her around the house didn't help any either.

Creative, I am. In fact I have a great deal of trouble thinking inside the box at all.

A fisherman worth watching on TV, maybe not so much..

But I have a fishing lure for Ice fishing that looks like a perch that just stole another perch's bloodworm, and the others try to grab it from his mouth...

I have made and used the world's simplest hook setting device.., Like a jawjacker, but simple.

My best rigs are rigs I know someone somewhere must use, but I've never heard of them.

I make an all metal swimbait that kills em (sometimes).

I do a lot of my ice fishing with wet flies, or plastics on a hook, rather than ice jigs.

Mostly it's just dumb stuff like sewing my own waders and ice tent. If any of that sounds fun, let me know. I'll PM my email and stuff.

I am an ice fisherman, we are allowed 3 rods in our state,

the problem is fish steeling our rods. Primarily Pike.

I have a solution, tho not a new concept, it is a quick easy fix and might I add a total riot out on the ice. And I always get an adiance when I am in action.[cool]

Last year I fished next to an angler in the morning with this unit and I allowed him to attend it while addressed another fish on situation, he went home at lunch, came back that afternoon with one he put together in less than an hour.

Ya, I get a lot of on lookers and laughers when I set it up, especialy when they hear the gingle bells.[laugh]

So far the record on 1 of my rods is 21 lbs. Just look up New World Record Fish with Penfishingrods.com on youtube & the whole fight is captured on film. I would post the video but the posting police took it down because I don't post 100 X a day here. Also, that bass picture of you holding a rod. The reel looks like a pen rod & so does the handle, but that rod doesn't look anything like a pen fishing rod. That rod is modified if it was a pen rod. Your guides are way too large & protruding out to close up into an 8" pen fishing rod housing. They stick out 2" past the tube's diameter. Write & I'll introduce you to the program we have world wide. These are 3 trout I nailed on my pen rod goliath. Two steelheads & a brownie.

There's no specific species of carp & we have 10's, 15's, 17's & an 18 lb carp out of 250 videos on youtube already. Sorry, I got you with "penrods"[crazy].I wanted to share with you.Around here I'm known to catch random fish with random baits,also love to catch fish on light tackle.I also have lures I've improved,also the ways which I work some baits may be different.In this video I catch a random fish with a random bait,my first fishing video[]P.S. it'll be like killing to birds with one stone my state record 20lb,world recoprd 44lb..Well so yea I risked it all,including the familly jewells,they don't call them ball cutter for nothing.Pacu..by.Pauly.There is one more clip of me nearly getting spooled on the initial bite...
