So Friday night a buddy and I make plans to head up to strawberry on Saturday (1.21.12). I loaded up the 4 wheeler and got everything ready. The reports looked like it was to snow a little in the morning and then all hell was to break lose in the afternoon. We hit the lake around 7:15 and got the wheeler loaded up and headed for a new spot we wanted to try. IT was a little scary getting over the pressure ridges and one site would be nice and solid while the other side would be a wet slushy mess.

We were set up and fishing by 8. Took a few min. before we got the first fish of the day. Fishing was not very fast but it was enough to keep you focused on what you were doing. Around 9 the snow started coming down. At one point I looked over to check on my buddy who was about 50 feet away and I could not see him. It was a total white out. By noon there was over 6 inches of new snow.

We landed several fish with some bigger than the slot limit. My biggest was 25 and my buddy landed an lice fat 24 incher. He also end up with one big sucker which was kept for bait.

We packed up and headed out at about 1:30. When we got to the first pressure ridge we end up getting stuck. Thanks so some other folks on the ice we were able to get back on our way. Ended up may a small trip down the road to the marina where there were loads of people parked. They have been plowing the main road down but they are blocking it of past the marina like normal.

When My buddy got home he was looking his 24 incher over and when he looked in its mouth he could see a fish tail sticking out. He reached in with some pliers and pulled this out. It was about 10 inches.

Next time we go fishing I think I will used some larger baits. [Image: icon_mrgreen.gif]

Thanks for the report. Glad you had some good fishing, I hear its been pretty slow for alot of people.
I'm thinking of taking my wheeler up there this week. How much snow was on the ice when you left? Any tips on ways to keep a wheeler from getting stuck?
What did you catch the sucker on? I want some for bait as well.
Thanks again.

THere was over 8" when we left and it was still snowing. Last word I got was 11" and there may even be more now.

The fist trick in not gettting stuck would be to make sure you stay out of the slush.

The sucker was caught on the samething we were using for trout. It was just a lucky catch.
